Despite the uncertainty surrounding the proposed India tour of Bangladesh, BCB president Tamim Iqbal says both boards remain committed to finding a way to stage the six-match white-ball series. India Series Still Not Off the Table
India were scheduled to play three ODIs and three T20Is in Bangladesh. With the original window of September 2026 no longer viable, speculation had grown that the series could be scrapped altogether.
Tamim, however, offered a more optimistic assessment, revealing that the BCB and BCCI are actively looking for a new window that works for both teams. The BCB president stressed that the intention on both sides remains positive.
“That it (India series) won’t happen hasn’t been decided yet. Both boards are very sincere that this thing happens,” said Tamim Iqbal.
Busy Calendars Create Another Challenge
Finding a new window will not be straightforward. Both India and Bangladesh already have packed international schedules, meaning any rearrangement would require careful planning.
Tamim revealed that discussions between the two boards are continuing and possible dates are being examined.
“There are certain things that are beyond our control… But intentions are good; we are continuously communicating. Dates are also being figured out,”
The situation therefore appears less like a cancellation and more like a scheduling problem complicated by the broader circumstances surrounding the two countries. Tamim also pointed out that Bangladesh has several commitments during the period, while India has their own packed calendar. India are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan beginning September 13, making the previously discussed window impossible.
Tamim Opens Up on ICC T20 World Cup 2026 Controversy
Tamim Iqbal’s comments on the India series came alongside a candid assessment of Bangladesh’s handling of the 2026 T20 World Cup controversy. Bangladesh did not participate in the tournament, with security concerns forming the basis of their position after the controversy involving Mustafizur Rahman and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Tamim now believes the situation could have been handled differently.
“I feel that we could have negotiated the thing much better. Sports Should Remain as Sports.
Tamim Iqbal also made it clear that he still believes Bangladesh should have participated in the World Cup. For Tamim, the bigger lesson was about keeping sporting opportunities separate from wider political disagreements. Tamim argued that cricket should not always become an extension of political disputes, stressing that negotiations should leave room for compromise.
He acknowledged that there were circumstances beyond the BCB’s control, but suggested that reaching a point of no return early in negotiations can make eventual solutions much harder.
“If you go to a point of no return on the very first day, then that (solution) won’t happen,”

The six-match series remains uncertain in terms of when it will be played, but according to Tamim, the intention to make it happen remains strong. With both boards continuing discussions, the next step is finding a window that can accommodate two increasingly busy international schedules. The series may have lost its original dates, but it has not yet lost its place on the calendar.
