As the first-ever major tri series at Namibia Cricket Ground is finally here, the host nation will look to pull a 2nd upset in a row against the Proteas with them already beating them once previously in 2025. Seeing that this nation has slowly emerged into a consistent World Cup team, this opening match could be the start of something special which could potentially help get much further into tournaments. With a fully packed stadium expected for this matchup to support the home side, it would be a great time for Namibia to rise to the occasion. Led by captain Gerhard Erasmus, he has slowly started turning around this team’s confidence and they don’t seem to shy away from big moments anymore.
Meanwhile, South Africa are hoping to reverse history and get a convincing win to start of this series. Someone whose not only been at the top with his ability to get ball far, this is also a player that has always been above that 150 strike rate number. After this the Hermann brothers will be the next two batsmen with Rubin, 250 runs in 12 T20I’s for South Africa, while Jordan was a key reason why Sunrises Eastern Cape one last season.
In the middle, a big name is Jason Smith as he was selected for the recent World Cup and was solid in the WI series prior to it as well. Closing it out, Duan Jansen hopes to become a massive hitter like his brother Marco during his debut, while Bjorn Fortuin needs to perform well.

For Namibia, they are going with their similar main unit that helped them get into the World Cup and had a massive influence on their growth throughout these last couple years. Up-top, Michael Van Lingen will open for the first time in a while since he has proven to be more of a 50-over player than a T20 batsmen. The huge key for him here is that he has hit two half-centuries in the past and if he wants to create a big partnership with Loureen Steenkamp, 331 runs in 14 matches, a lot of big-hitting is expected from him as well.
Jan-Nicol-Loftie-Eaton has continued being one of the most sounds batsmen on this unit and his 100 last year helped Namibia know they have another good batsmen in their hands after a pretty slow start to his career. At two-down, Gerhard Erasmus, 2178 runs and 15 fiftees, remains this team’s main X-factor, as he is just not a leader, but someone who will push his limits to make sure his side has enough runs on the board. Seeing that he has quietly become a top-notch finisher in his own right, Jan Frylinck, 1356 runs and 2 hundreds, has also done a lot of impactful hitting for this unit down the order.
JJ Smit has proven to be a true-all rounder right below him, while Zane Green rounds out a pretty deep batting attack. Despite Green not having the most gaudy average at just 16.85, he was the biggest reason why Namibia beat South Africa last year.
South Africa: Bowling Attack Looks Like It Could Be In For Some Exciting Moments
As the Proteas have a very new-look bowling attack for this match, it could potentially end in a very exciting way since they will know who could potentially make up the team’s future. The right-handed Lutho Sipamla has continued working on his pace from the right-end and is someone that can be a massive threat during this match in his 4 overs. Even though he is not a fan-favorite yet, he could become one by the end of this series, while Kwena Maphaka will be the major threat from the left-end. Seeing that Maphaka should what he was made up off last year in the Australia series, this is a young piece that has already taken up 18 wickets in his first 18 T20I’s.
The most intrguing lefty on this side, though, is Duan Jansen as many have compared him to his brother, but he will have to fully play first to prove that. Have a long-range with medium pace makes him extremely scary since he could potentially have the ability to bowl yorkers that hit the batsmen right under the bat. With him being a exciting question that needs to be answered, Prenelan Subrayen will continue using his unique action to fool batsmen and pick up wickets after he has started getting selected for the national team.
Closing it out, Bjorn Fortuin is a key spinner that can angle the ball in several different ways and hopes to build off 23 wickets in 27 matches.
