Dhruv Jurel reached three figures with a swift single after pushing Asitha Fernando’s delivery from mid-on, with Mohammed Siraj holding the fort at the non-striker’s end. Jurel remained unbeaten on 114 off 177 balls, including 9 fours and two sixes. His century came at a crucial time for India as the Men in Blue lost wickets consistently.
Coming in at No. 7 when India’s score was 296-5, the wicketkeeper-batter played a sensible knock alongside the lower order to help India make a huge score. Dhruv Jurel became the second Indian batter to hit a Test century coming in at No.7 or lower after Hardik Pandya in Sri Lanka, who had scored 108 at Pallekele in 2017.

Both batters reached their half-century milestone before lunch, helping India cross the 400-run mark and putting them in a commanding position.  Their stand also became only the second century partnership for India’s seventh wicket or lower in a Test played in Sri Lanka.
Jurel also shared important stands with Manav Suthar (39) and Mohammed Siraj (31) to boost India past 500 runs, which was 503-9 declared.
Dhruv Jurel’s Solid Defense Frustrates Sri Lanka
The right-hander showed exemplary defense and kept his composure, despite getting stranded on 99 for thirteen deliveries after a quick single on Fernando’s ball released him into the relief of the triple digits.
India backed Dhruv to play as a specialist batter in this series, and he repaid that faith with a calm, composed knock. He kept the scoreboard ticking with ones and twos, restraining himself from taking unnecessary risks and assuredly driving India forward to a clean-sweep victory against Sri Lanka on their home soil.
