England’s all-rounder Sam Curran‘s English summer comes to an end early due to a groin injury confirmed by Surrey. Sam Curran has been carrying a couple of niggles due to his high workload, thus leading him to be left out of the squad for the first two Pakistan tests. England registered a dominant win over Pakistan in the opening Test match by an innings & 103 runs.
Sam Curran’s injury a huge problem for England
This latest comeback further stalls his much-anticipated Test comeback post the retirement of Ben Stokes. Though he was slated to be an option in the Joe Root-led side, selector Marcus North believes that the 28-year-old had better sit out for some time.
“I think [it would be] unfair to put him into these first two Tests,” said North earlier this month while interacting with the press “He’s someone our backroom staff and medical team will be working with in the coming weeks to make sure that he potentially becomes an option in the third Test,”
Sam Curran’s last outing was as skipper of MI London in The Hundred. Before that, he had featured in the home ODI series against India. The groin injury Sam is currently facing is seemingly a recurring issue, having made him miss out on IPL 2026 as well. He had called it an injury that he had been dealing with for quite some time now, which had gradually gotten worse.
Will Jacks Misses Out Due to Appendix Removal
Unfortunately for the English side, Sam Curran is not the only one whose English summer must come to an end due to a medical situation. Will Jacks was also absent from Surrey’s squad on the resumption of the County Championship on Thursday (August 20). Will Jacks is recovering from an appendix removal surgery, and a call will be taken on his availability ahead of the series against Sri Lanka.
Sam Curran’s absence, paired with Will Jacks’ and that of Dan Lawrence has left a gaping hole in Surrey’s side, which has prompted Mahipal Lomror’s call-up. Surrey currently sits seventh on the Division One County Championship points table. Sam Curran is set to undergo a surgery and only time will tell wheher he would be able to take part in Test series against South Africa on 17th December.
