The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup clash between Bangladesh Women and Netherlands Women turned into a dramatic contest where momentum shifted almost every few overs. Bangladesh eventually chased down 140 runs to win by six wickets with five balls remaining, but the game felt much closer than the final result suggested. From captain Babette de Leede’s fighting half-century to Juairiya Ferdous’ fearless counterattack, the match had pressure, missed chances, sharp run outs, and moments that completely changed the flow of the game.
Bangladesh Bowlers And Fielders Keep Netherlands Under Pressure
The Dutch innings started with aggression from Heather Siegers and Phoebe Molkenboer, but Bangladesh drew first blood in the 1.4th over when Molkenboer was dismissed for 11 runs after Nigar Sultana completed a catch off Marufa Akter. Heather Siegers then tried to increase the scoring rate with two Fours before Farhia Trisna removed her in the final ball of the 5th over for 16 off 13 balls.

Captain Babette de Leede became the backbone of the Netherlands innings with a composed 50 off 45 balls that included five boundaries. While wickets kept falling around her, she held the innings together and guided the Netherlands through the middle overs. However, Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling never allowed the run rate to explode. Rabeya Khatun conceded only 26 runs in four overs, while Ritu Moni delivered the most economical spell of the innings with figures of 1 for 17 at an economy of 4.25.

The biggest turning point came in the death overs when Bangladesh’s fielders produced moments of brilliance. Frederique Overdijk was run out in the 15.6th over by Shorna Akter, and just a few deliveries later, Babette de Leede’s important knock ended in the 16.3rd over through another sharp run-out effort. The Netherlands lost momentum badly after those dismissals. Between the 12th and 18th overs, the Dutch side lost four wickets and struggled to finish strongly despite having wickets in hand earlier. They eventually ended on 139/8 in 20 overs, with extras contributing 11 runs.
Juairiya Ferdous Leads Bangladesh’s Chase In Style
Bangladesh began the chase with fearless intent, and Juairiya Ferdous completely changed the mood of the match. Juairiya Ferdous attacked the Netherlands bowlers from the beginning and smashed 50 runs from just 33 balls, hitting seven fours and two sixes. Her aggressive batting gave Bangladesh early control as the team raced to 67 runs before the first wicket fell in the 7.5th over.
However, the game quickly became tense again. Just one ball after Juairiya Ferdous’ dismissal, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana was bowled for a duck by Caroline de Lange on the last ball of 8th over. Dilara Akter added a valuable 26 from 23 deliveries before Silver Siegers removed her in the 10.2nd over. Netherlands sensed an opportunity once Sobhana Mostary was run out for just four runs at the end of 12th over after a smart fielding effort from Frederique Overdijk.

Despite the pressure, Bangladesh stayed calm during the final overs. Shorna Akter played a mature, unbeaten innings of 37 off 32 balls, while Sumaiya Akter supported her with 18 not out from 17 deliveries. Netherlands bowlers tried hard to create one final twist, with Caroline de Lange finishing with 2 wickets for 27 runs, but Bangladesh kept rotating the strike and avoided unnecessary risks.

In the end, Bangladesh reached 141/4 in 19.1 overs to seal a six-wicket victory. The match may have looked simple on paper, but on the field it unfolded like a thriller filled with momentum swings, pressure moments, run outs, and fighting performances from both sides.
