RCB vs GT: Rahul Tewatia Gives A Ray Of Hope To GT

In a high-pressure IPL 2026 playoff clash, Royal Challengers Bengaluru completely outclassed Gujarat Titans to storm into the final with a massive 92-run victory. While Rajat Patidar’s explosive, unbeaten 93 off just 33 balls grabbed the spotlight, Rahul Tewatia’s fighting knock was one of the few positives GT could take from a disappointing night. Chasing a daunting target of 255, Gujarat collapsed under scoreboard pressure, but Tewatia ensured the innings did not end in complete embarrassment.

GT were rocked early after losing Sai Sudharsan for 14 and skipper Shubman Gill for just 2 inside the first four overs. Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar attacked with discipline, and RCB’s fielders backed them brilliantly. Jos Buttler briefly counterattacked with 29 off only 11 balls, smashing four Fours and two sixes, but his dismissal at 51/3 in 4.5 overs changed the momentum completely.

Rahul Tewatia Arriving Under Pressure

Rahul Tewatia walked in when the Gujarat Titans were already struggling badly as score was 51-4 in 5.1 overs. The middle order had collapsed quickly as Nishant Sindhu, Washington Sundar, and Jason Holder failed to handle the pressure created by RCB’s bowling attack. GT slipped to 65/6 in only 8.2 overs, and the playoff contest looked almost over before the halfway stage of the innings.

At that moment, Rahul Tewatia decided to shift gears instead of merely surviving. He started targeting the shorter boundaries and looked determined to take on the spinners. Unlike the rest of the batting lineup, he showed intent along with composure.

Smart Counterattack Against RCB Bowlers

Tewatia’s innings of 68 off 43 balls included eight fours and four sixes at a strike rate above 158. He particularly attacked the pace variations of Jacob Duffy and the hard lengths of Rasikh Salam. Whenever Krunal Pandya bowled fuller deliveries, Tewatia used his wrists effectively to find gaps square of the wicket.

One of the biggest highlights of his innings was how he handled pressure despite wickets falling continuously at the other end. From 88/8 in 11.2 overs, he helped Gujarat cross 150, which at one stage looked impossible. He also exposed the lack of support from the rest of the batting order because no other GT batter besides Buttler crossed even 30.

Rahul Tewatia played some fearless strokes during the death overs, including consecutive boundaries off Romario Shepherd and a powerful six over deep midwicket against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Even though the required rate had already climbed beyond reach, he continued fighting aggressively.

RCB Bowlers Eventually Finish The Job

Despite Tewatia’s resistance, RCB never allowed the game to drift away. Krunal Pandya delivered a match-changing spell of 2 wickets for just 16 runs in 3.3 overs and dismissed Kagiso Rabada at a crucial moment. Jacob Duffy also impressed with figures of 3/39, while Rasikh Salam picked up two wickets and constantly applied pressure with tight lines. Tewatia stitched a 68 runs partnership in 41 balls with Siraj for 8th wicket.

Eventually, Bhuvneshwar Kumar ended Rahul Tewatia’s brave knock in the 19th over when Rajat Patidar completed the catch. That wicket officially ended GT’s final hopes as they were bowled out for 162 in 19.3 overs.

A Positive Amid Playoff Disappointment

Although the Gujarat Titans suffered a heavy defeat, Rahul Tewatia’s innings gave fans at least one positive takeaway from the playoff clash. In a batting lineup filled with experienced names, he was the only player who truly absorbed pressure and responded with character.

For RCB, the night belonged to Rajat Patidar and their dominant bowling unit as they booked a place in the IPL 2026 final. But for GT supporters, Rahul Tewatia’s fighting 68 served as a reminder that even in defeat, one fearless innings can still offer hope for the future.
