Kolkata Knight Riders held their nerve in a tense, low-scoring encounter against Mumbai Indians as Manish Pandey played a composed knock to guide his side to an important four-wicket victory. Chasing 148 at a challenging venue, KKR crossed the finish line in 18.5 overs, with Manish Pandey’s calm approach proving to be the difference between the two teams.
While the target did not appear massive on paper, the pitch offered enough assistance to bowlers, making stroke-making difficult at times. KKR lost wickets at regular intervals, but Pandey’s experience helped stabilize the innings whenever Mumbai attempted to make a comeback.
Manish Pandey’s Experience Comes to the Rescue
Manish Pandey scored a crucial 45 runs from 33 deliveries, striking six fours at a strike rate of 136.36. More importantly, he handled pressure smartly during the middle overs when KKR needed someone to guide the chase.
After Ajinkya Rahane gave KKR a brisk start with 21 runs off 17 balls, Mumbai Indians fought back by dismissing Cameron Green cheaply, at that time, KKR’s score was 54-1. The chase could have slipped away quickly, but Pandey absorbed the pressure and rotated the strike efficiently while punishing loose deliveries.
Manish Pandey’s innings was not about reckless hitting. Instead, it was built on smart cricketing shots, excellent placement, and understanding match situations. Pandey targeted gaps rather than forcing big shots, which allowed KKR to keep the scoreboard moving consistently.
Rovman Powell Provides the Finishing Touch
While Pandey laid the platform, Rovman Powell ensured KKR stayed ahead in the chase. Powell smashed 40 runs off 30 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes, adding momentum during the latter half of the innings.
The partnership between Pandey and Powell of 64 runs in 47 balls helped KKR recover from a slightly shaky position of 54-3. Their crucial 44-run stand steadied the chase and frustrated Mumbai bowlers, especially when Jasprit Bumrah began building pressure with disciplined overs. Both batters rotated the strike smartly and punished loose deliveries to keep KKR in control during the middle overs.
Although Pandey fell before finishing the chase, his contribution had already pushed KKR into a comfortable position. Rinku Singh and Anukul Roy calmly completed the formalities with seven balls remaining.
MI Bowlers Failed to Capitalize
MI had opportunities to tighten the contest but failed to maintain consistent pressure. Corbin Bosch was the standout bowler for MI, picking up three wickets while conceding only 30 runs in his four-over spell.
Jasprit Bumrah also bowled with control and dismissed Manish Pandey at a crucial stage. However, the remaining bowling attack struggled to contain KKR’s middle order once the partnership settled.
Earlier in the match, Mumbai managed only 147/8 in 20 overs despite late resistance from Corbin Bosch, who remained unbeaten on 32 off 18 balls. Sunil Narine’s economical spell of 1/13 in four overs played a major role in restricting MI below the 150-run mark.

This victory showcased KKR’s ability to handle pressure situations calmly. On a difficult batting surface, Manish Pandey’s mature innings stood out as the defining performance of the chase.
At a time when aggressive batting dominates T20 cricket, Pandey reminded everyone that composure, game awareness, and smart shot selection still hold immense value. His knock may not have been the flashiest innings of the tournament, but it was certainly one of the most impactful for KKR this season.
