GT vs SRH: Kagiso Rabada & Jason Holder Tears SRH Apart

Kagiso Rabada shone with the new ball while Jason Holder polished off the tail as GT proved to be too good for SRH, thrashing the Orange Army by 82 runs. GT batted first and through half-centuries from Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar, helping GT post a competitive score of 168/5 in 20 overs. They held the innings together before bidding adieu to cricket after this game.

In reply, while defending the score, SRH fell apart as the top and middle order caved in under pressure. Kagiso Rabada ripped apart SRH batters by picking up 3 wickets, while Jason Holder polished off the tail and got three wickets as well. Siraj bowled well, too, getting a wicket to his name. GT win by 82 runs and has 16 points now in 12 games. SRH stays in 3rd place with 12 points for now.

Sai Sudharsan & Washington Sundar’s sparkling fifties help GT post a competitive 168/5 in 20 overs

Put into bat first, Sai Sudharsan and captain Shubman Gill came out to open for GT while SRH captain Pat Cummins had the ball in hand for SRH. GT got off to a steady start as the opening duo put on 15 runs in 2.2 overs before Gill fell for 5 off 7 balls with one four to his name to Praful Hinge. Keeper batter Jos Buttler came out to bat next. Buttler and Sudharsan added 11 runs for the second wicket before Buttler too perished for 7 off 11 balls with one four to his name to Hinge yet again. Nishant Sindhu came out to bat next.

At the end of the power play overs, SRH were 34/2 in 6 overs. The duo of Sindhu and Sudharsan tried to build another partnership. The duo added 38 runs for the third wicket before Sindhu fell for 22 off 14 balls with 3 fours and one six to his name to Pat Cummins. Washington Sundar came out to bat next to join Sai in the middle. Sai and Sundar joined forces and took the attack to the opposition. They rebuilt the innings of GT and aced the middle phase.

The duo of Sai and Sundar added  60 runs for the 4th wicket before Sudharsan fell for 61 off 44 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes to his name to Sakib Hussain. Jason Holder came and joined Sundar in the middle. Sundar played the perfect role of the finisher. He took over the bulk of the scoring while Holder played second fiddle out there. Sundar aced the death overs phase as he added 60 runs for the 5th wicket with Holder before Sundar fell for 50 off 33 balls with 7 fours and one six to his name to Sakib Hussain.

Rahul Tewatia came out to bat next and faced the last ball of the innings, which he got away with a boundary along the ground. He remained unbeaten on 4 off 1 ball with one boundary to his name, while Holder remained unbeaten on 11 off 10 balls. 8 extras given by the fielding side as GT finished with a competitive 168/5 in 20 overs. 8 extras given by the fielding side.

The SRH team bowled decently well out there. Praful Hinge was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/17 in 3 overs. Sakib Hussain finished with figures of 2/37 in 4 overs. Pat Cummins, the captain, finished with 1/20 in 4 overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy finished with 0/27 in 3 overs. Eshan Malinga finished with 0/46 in 4 overs. Shivang Kumar finished with 0/19 in 2 overs. This meant that SRH needed 169 runs to win off 20 overs.

Jason Holder & Kagiso Rabada skittle SRH out for 86 in 14.5 overs

Chasing 169 for the win, Impact Player Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma came out to open the batting for SRH while Mohammed Siraj had the ball in hand for GT. GT made a perfect start as Impact Player Travis Head was removed for a 4th ball duck to Siraj. Keeper batter Ishan Kishan came out to bat next. Just 6 runs were added for the second wicket before Abhishek fell for 6 off 4 balls with one six to his name, and he was dismissed by Kagiso Rabada.

Smaran Ravichandran came out to bat next. Ishan and Ravichandran tried to forge another partnership and put on 17 runs for the third wicket before Ishan fell for 11 off 7 balls with one four and one six to his name to Rabada yet again. Heinrich Klaasen came out to bat next. The duo of Ravichandran and Klaasen added 9 runs for the 4th wicket before Ravichandran fell for 9 off 15 balls with one four to his name to Rabada. Salil Arora came out to bat next. The first 4 wickets fell in the first 6 overs.

At the end of the power play of 6 overs, SRH were struggling at 34/4. The duo of Salil Arora and Klaasen added 24 runs for the 5th wicket before Arora fell for 16 off 13 balls with 3 fours to his name to Prasidh Krishna. Nitish Kumar Reddy came out to bat next. Klaasen fell soon at the team score of 56 runs as Klaasen, the big player, went for 14 off 16 balls with 2 fours to his name to Jason Holder. Captain Pat Cummins came out to bat next.

Just 4 runs were added to the score before Nitish fell for 2 off 4 balls to Jason Holder. Shivang Kumar came out to bat next. Cummins and Kumar added 12 more runs to the tally before Shivang fell for 4 off 6 balls to Holder. Praful Hinge came out to bat next. Cummins played a few shots too and added 10 runs to the tally before the captain, Cummins, fell for 19 off 9 balls with one four and two sixes to his name to Krishna. Eshan Malinga came out to bat next.

Hinge and Malinga could add only 4 runs to the score before Hinge was stumped out for 3 off 8 balls by Buttler off Rashid Khan. Malinga remained unbeaten on 0 off 3 balls as SRH were bowled out for 86 in 14.5 overs. 2 extras given by the fielding side.

For GT, their pacers were brilliant. Jason Holder was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/20 in 4 overs. Kagiso Rabada finished with figures of 3/28 in 4 overs. Prasidh Krishna, the Impact Player, finished with 2/23 in 3 overs. Rashid Khan finished with 1/3 in 5 balls. So, GT thrashes SRH by 82 runs to go to the top of the points table. Kagiso Rabada was awarded the Player of the Match Award.

What Lies Ahead

So, with this massive win, GT are looking good at the top of the points table with 16 points. SRH suffered a heavy beating, and their NRR goes down a bit; they have now got to win 2 in 3 games. GT will next face KKR in Kolkata at Eden Gardens, in Kolkata on Saturday evening. SRH has a break now before they face CSK in Chennai on Monday night. So, a lot to look forward to us. The next IPL game takes us back to Raipur for RCB hosting KKR in a crucial clash for both teams.
