LSG vs KKR: Rinku Singh Stars As KKR Win Thrilling Super Over

What a game we had in Lucknow. Rinku Singh stole the show with the bat and in the field as well. The game that was played on a sporting wicket saw both teams struggling in the middle. It was a great game of cricket with both teams struggling for timing. KKR had to bat first and struggled as Mohsin Khan had completed a 5-wicket haul. Thereafter, Rinku Singh rescued the team and scored an unbeaten 83 off 51 balls to take KKR to 155/7 in 20 overs.

Later on, in reply, LSG huffed and puffed, with Marsh scoring an unbeaten 31; Rishabh Pant went on to score runs. Ayush Badoni played well while Pooran and Himmat Singh were climbing up the table. Pant has some runs, while others played their part. Shami’s last ball six tied the game. Sunil Narine showed his class in the Super Over, taking 2 wickets in 3 balls for 1 run. Chasing 2 for the win, Rinku Singh hit a boundary through the point region to seal the deal in the end.

Put into bat first, captain Ajinkya Rahane and keeper batter Tim Seifert came out to bat for KKR while Mohammed Shami had the ball in hand for LSG. Shami bowled a tight first over. KKR could only get to 3 on the board in 2 overs before Seifert was the first to go for a bronze duck to Mohsin Khan. Angkrish Raghuvanshi came out to bat next. Rahane was slow but managed to hit a maximum off Shami. Rahane did not last long, as just 13 runs were added to the tally before the captain went for 10 off 15 balls with one six to his name to Mohsin Khan.

Cameron Green came out to bat next. 11 runs were added to the tally before Raghuvanshi fell under controversial circumstances, as he was given out obstructing the field, as he was deemed to have changed the course of his running. There was a lot of furore and disagreement, but Raghuvanshi had to depart for 9 off 8 balls with one four to his name. Rovman Powell came out to the middle next. Just 4 runs were added to the tally before Powell fell for 1 off 4 balls to Mohsin Khan.

Rinku Singh came out to bat next to join Green in the middle. The power play score was 31/3 in 6 overs, after which Powell had gotten out. Green and Rinku had to rebuild the job for KKR, and they did that. Green played his game while Rinku got his eye in before playing his shots. The duo forged an important 42-run stand for the 5th wicket before Green fell for 34 off 21 balls with 3 sixes to his name to Mohsin Khan. Anukul Roy came out to bat next.

Anukul came and went for a golden duck as Khan had two wickets in two balls to leave the KKR team at 73/6 in 11 overs. Ramandeep Singh came out to bat next. Rinku Singh took the attack to the opposition while Ramandeep stayed at the other end. The duo added 20 more runs to the tally before Ramandeep fell for 6 off 11 balls to George Linde as KKR were 93/7 in 15 overs. Sunil Narine came out to bat next.

From hereon, it was the Rinku Singh show as Narine was a mere spectator at the other end. Rinku turned it on and completed his fifty and converted that to a significant score. Narine did well to hang in with him. Rinku scored a lot of runs. He took the game deep, and then Pant played it into his own hands by giving the spinner Digvesh Rathi the last over. Rinku said Thank You Very Much and plundered a lot of runs in the final overs, hitting three sixes in the final over of the innings.

Rinku remained unbeaten on 83 off 51 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes to his name, while Narine remained unbeaten on 4 off 6 balls as KKR finished with a competitive 155/7 in 20 overs. 8 extras given by the fielding side.

Mohsin Khan was the pick of the bowlers for LSG with figures of 5/23 in 4 overs. George Linde finished with figures of 1/18 in 2 overs. Mohammed Shami ended with 0/34 in 4 overs. Prince Yadav finished with 0/24 in 4 overs. Digvesh Rathi finished with 1/18 in 2 overs. Aiden Markram finished with 0/9 in 2 overs. This meant that LSG’s target was 156 runs to win in 20 overs.

Chasing 156 for the win, Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh came out to bat for LSG while Anukul Roy had the ball in hand for KKR. LSG got off to a shaky start as the opening duo could add only 8 runs to the tally before Marsh fell for 2 off 3 balls to Vaibhav Arora. Captain and keeper batter Rishabh Pant came out to bat next. Markram and Pant then joined forces to put a partnership going. They started to build the partnership to lay the base for the chase.

Both of them looked slow and sluggish out there, going at a run after a ball. At the end of the power play, LSG were 37/1 in 6 overs. They carried that forward and batted past 10 overs. The duo added 57 runs for the second wicket before Markram fell for 31 off 27 balls with 2 fours and a maximum to his name. Nicholas Pooran came out to bat next.

Pant and Pooran tried to forge a partnership and added 13 runs to the tally before Pant fell for 42 off 38 balls with 4 fours and one six to his name to Narine. Ayush Badoni came out to bat next. The duo of Pooran and Badoni added 11 runs to the tally before Pooran fell for 9 off 12 balls with one six to his name to Varun Chakaravarthy, as the nightmare continues for Pooran. Just 4 runs were added to the tally before Mukul fell for 1 off 2 balls to Anukul Roy as the LSG were 93/5 in 15.2 overs from 65/1 at one stage. The collapse was on. Impact Player Himmat Singh came out to bat next alongside Badoni. The duo kept the fight going for LSG. The duo tried to put on a stand and added 27 runs for the 6th wicket before Badoni fell for 24 off 19 balls with 2 sixes to his name to Varun yet again. George Linde came out to bat next and struck a couple of boundaries.

Just 9 runs were added to the tally before Linde fell for 8 off 4 balls with 2 fours to his name to Vaibhav Arora. Mohammed Shami came out to bat next. Shami struck a boundary while Himmat, the Impact Player, kept LSG in the hunt. Prince ran a bye after which, Shami swung and missed to make the equation 7 runs off 1 ball. Shami hit the last ball of the innings over long-off for the maximum to tie the game. This meant we went into the Super Over. Shami was unbeaten on 11 off 6 balls with one four and one six to his name, while Prince Yadav was unbeaten on 0 off 1 ball. 8 extras given by the fielding side. LSG finished with 155/8 in 20 overs in reply to KKR’s 155/7 in 20 overs. 8 extras given by the fielding side.

KKR bowlers bowled really well out there. Vaibhav Arora was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/24 in 4 overs. Impact Player Varun Chakaravarthy finished with 2/33 in 4 overs. Sunil Narine finished with 1/23 in 4 overs. Cameron Green finished with 1/12 in 2 overs. Anukul Roy finished with 1/19 in 2 overs. Kartik Tyagi finished with 1/41 in 4 overs. So, the match ended as a tie. We went into the Super Over.

In the Super Over, as per the rules, LSG had to bat first. Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram came out to bat for LSG while Sunil Narine had the responsibility to bowl the Super Over for KKR. Narine cleaned up Pooran for a golden duck. Then Rishabh Pant came out to bat next and got off the mark as well. Markram then tried to go big and miscued it to Rovman Powell at long-on and parried it to Rinku Singh, who took it easily.

So, LSG ended with 1/2 in 3 balls. It meant KKR needed 2 runs to win in their Super Over. Chasing 2 for the win, Rinku Singh and Rovman Powell came out to bat for KKR while Prince Yadav had the ball in hand for LSG. Rinku took just one ball to get the job done as he carved it away for a boundary through the backward point region.

So, KKR won the contest in the Super Over and got two important points to go upwards to 8th in the points table.

What Lies Ahead

So, KKR, with this win will be delighted and are in 8th place after this Super Over win. LSG are now languishing in 10th place in the table. Both have games coming up in the coming days. Tomorrow, it’s going to be DC taking on RCB from New Delhi. DC were looking good, but now they have stumbled a little bit. RCB are in 2nd place at this stage. A lot of cricket to look forward to for all of us on Monday night.
