ICC T20 WC 2026: South Africa Disseminate West Indies

After electing to bowl first, South Africa asserted their dominance. West Indies’ batters’ ultra-attacking approach got backfired brutally. At the end of the half way stage, West Indies’ score was 82-6. South Africa’s bowlers seemed to have done all the home work as there were plans in place for all batters.

South Africa wreck West Indies’ batters in powerplay

West Indies’ had got off to a flyer as they scored 29 runs in first 2 overs. Shai Hope ws timing the ball mellifluously as he took on Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen. The introduction of Kagiso Rabada in 3rd over not only put brakes on scoring but got rid of crucial wickets of Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer.

Caribbean batters were in a hurry to score quickly and played a lot of rash shots. The decision to slot in Roston Chase at No.6 position also didn’t work as his stumps were uprooted. Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada were spot on with their in- and out- lengths as the red soil surface helped their variations. West Indies had a good powerplay as they scored 52 runs but lost 4 wickets.

South Africa deepen the agony for West Indies

There were high expectations from Rovman Powell & Sherfane Rutherford to steady the ship. Sherfane Rutherford’s aggresive brand of cricket cost him his wicket. West Indies was reduced to 60-5 in 6.3 overs. The afternoon start of the match helped the pacers to get some moisture off the surface as bowling wicket to wicket made life harder for batters.

Just when Rovman Powell and Jason Holder were forming a partnership. Then Rovman Powell was duped by Lungi Ngidi in 9th over as he was dismissed on 9 runs in 11 balls. The wickets were tumbling from both the ends, as West Indies’ was 71-6 in 8.2 overs. Jason Holder and Mattthew Forde have started to build up on the partnership but the fearless brand of cricket hasn’t stopped at all.

What lies ahead for South Africa & West Indies

West Indies’ utmost aim would be to bat entire 20 overs as any score over 150 would be somewhat challenging. All eyes will be on Jason Holder who has the experience of leading the side as after Holder & Forder, there’s only Romario Shepherd who can bat and get some runs under belt. South Africa on the other side would be eyeing to bundle out West Indies. Aiden Markram would be considering to roll his arm as both batters Holder & Forde have made their intentions clearer that they would go all out berserk.
