ICC T20 WC 2026: The One Man Show That Has Brought USA Domestic Cricket To New Heights: The Epic Rise Of Steven Katwaroo

As USA cricket has had a recent rise over the past couple of years, they have shown consistency to not only in developing players, but also in building a circuit that will set them up for the future. Seeing that this nation was able to make the semi-finals during their last time out in 2024, growth hasn’t stopped there, and it is all because of one man, Steven Katwaroo.

Knowing that many other sides would be sufficient and over the moon after making such a deep run, the USA rather decided to focus on their youth domestic teams, while training players to be even better prepared against tough competition that they may face against top nations in future times.

With several other coaches in the USA seemed to get very complacent after this side had beaten Pakistan two years ago, Steve was the only one who focused on what was ahead rather than living on just one achievement. Given that the club he currently coaches was once bottom feeders and couldn’t get out of its own way, his ability to come in for a culture change made a world of difference in the Falcons Jr.’s recent successes.

At just the age of 32, there is much to celebrate about Steven’s accomplishments at Falcons Jr., and we will discuss them throughout this whole piece, while also explaining a footprint that other teams should follow in order to be more competitve in these major tournaments.

How Steven Katwaroo Was Able To Take A Suffering Side To The Promise Land

When Steven originally arrived to the USA, the side that he is now thriving with was once a big mess that took time and effort to fix. Given that he was just at level one in his coaching journey and had to be much higher to change the whole scene of this system, he was able to obtain the core, advanced, and specialist level coaching in just several months.

Seeing that he had come from a West Indies background and comparing his initial situation at Falcons Jr., his ideas included creating a cricketing circuit that was sustainable for years down the line. One of the biggest changes in all of this was that, rather than just running scrimmages prior to every match, Steven would focus on fundamental skills during training and give technical group training.

Explaining that skill is just one thing, he really emphasized that creating a great foundation would even take the less skillful players to places they have never seen before. Despite posting his training videos for people to practice at home, this is a coach who pioneered in live online coaching for people all around the country.

Someone who has currently settled in New Jersey and does tons of live one-on-one, plus group trainings with his Falcons Jr. side, going online has helped him connect with players from California, Texas, Florida, and more. Helping those students who do virtual classes make it far, his ability to make sure he checks every inch of the players on his team when batting or bowling, has helped this side be amongst the top in every age group.

The Players That Have Come Out of Falcons Jr. Training And Where This Side Stands Now

As previously mentioned, they have become one of the strongest sides in every age group, their under-13 side was able to finish in 4th around New Jersey, while the under-15 side made a deep run of their own. Another key thing he does with his team is bringing them into training during the offseason times and building on their confidence.

Seeing that Steve believes in technical skills, another major asset for him as a coach is that he wants all of his players to be mentally strong and think they can be even better everyday. With the ability of moving brains and mental states in the right direction being a key factor of how any player will perform, Steve wants them top-notch in both departments, while carrying it over to offseason matches.

Knowing that playing in the offseason wasn’t made such a big deal for Falcons Jr. before Steven’s arrival, this development has kept players understanding match pressure during their time off and getting acquitted for the upcoming regular seasons. Talking about specific players, he has developed from his club, some include Prannav Chettipalayam, 171 runs in 6 matches during the under-19 World Cup, while also giving Jesse Singh great one-on-one sessions to become one of the United States main players.

Working with the under-15 legend Kriti Dayalu, his hardwork got him a role in building the youth USA teams from the age of 11 to 15. Through these selections, he has been able to figure out which players are best ready for success right away, while working with the remaining ones to get them towards that level.

As Arya Garg is another name to mention from Falcons Jr. coaching, Steve has continued finding innovative ways of training these players and developing to dominate against other sides. In conclusion, the Falcons Jr. sides hope to get an even bigger boost under Steven Katwaroo’s leadership, as this is the one coach who continues to figure out ways to build up players, no matter what skill level they may be at.
