SA vs PAK 2nd Match Review: The Proteas Get Dominated In A Match They Seemed Completely Lost

Seeing that the 2nd match between South Africa and Pakistan is officially over, it’s very clear that one side had complete domination in almost every phase. With this being Pakistan, it was very clear that they had a change in their plans, which gave them a clear advantage from start to finish. Removing some players, like Shaheen Afridi, made a massive difference as they also didn’t seem as lazy in the field and were clearly motivated to play, not matter what situation was presented. With captain Salman Ali Agha finally showing slight improvement as a captain, this will need to continue on as he has shown what he can be if not worried about outside things.

Meanwhile, South Africa will have a world of work to do before their match starts tommorow. A group that looked completely lost and couldn’t get anything going with bat or ball, it was clear that they were outperformed in almost every aspect. With Lhuan Dre-Pretorious still ruled out and them missing most of their main squad, the lack of leadership has shown to be a limiting factor with all these new pieces not being able to be as consistent. Credit should still be given to Donovan Ferreira because he has helped a limping group cross the line a couple times, while proving how good he can be in leading any side, despite whose is available to him.

South Africa: Very Nightmare Day For the Batting Lineup Who Played In An Uncharacteristic Way

Looking at this Proteas batting unit, it was quite shocking to see this display today since it felt like they were getting owned throughout their innings. With opener Quinton De Kock having a four before getting removed for 7 runs, he ended up being this side’s second wicket after Reeza Hendricks departed for no score. Putting them in an even deeper hole, Tony De Zorzi was not able to back up his 33-run knock and got out for 7 as well. This unit found themselves at 15/3, and just when they thought things couldn’t get any worse, the Matthew Breetzke struggles haunted them. As he’s continued failing to produce any threat in this format, this was someone who departed for 5 with just one boundary.

As Dewald Brevis came in, he was able to smash a couple of big-time sixes with Donovan Ferreira on the other side as they got near the 50 mark. Seeing that Ferreira was just getting going with one four, this was looking like something very scary. But, this couldn’t last as Brevis kept going for the big shots and managed to get himself out at 25 runs for a score of 49/5. On a very tough day, Ferreira did bring the score up to 66, but soon was removed, and it was basically down to George Linde plus Corbin Bosch. Despite seeing Linde hit a quick boundary and both of them running quickly between the wickets, he ended up getting removed, while they had to rely on Lungi Ngidi’s six and Otneil Bartmaan’s knock down the order.

Pakistan: Bowling Had One Surprising Performance That Seemed Like An Anomaly

For Pakistan, today felt like a once-in-a-while effort where their bowlers seemed spot on and looked very scary from top to bottom. With Salman Mizra getting added into the side after Shaheen Shah Afridi was benched, he had a fantastic performance with three wickets and just 14 runs allowed in four full overs. Looking more than sufficient on these pitches, he may be Pakistan’s long-term option moving forward. From the right end, Naseem Shah did a much better job of limiting runs and also picking up some key wickets. Taking two and allowing an economy of just 7.00, it was very clear that he had a point in which he wanted to attack and didn’t sway to much from it.

The real story of today was Faheem Ashraf as this piece took 4 wickets and was very important towards the back end. Fooling a lot of the power hitters into taking him on, there were several times when the batsmen hit the stumps when trying to go down the ground. With Abrar Ahmed finally having a good performance after a long while, it will be interesting to see if this actually lasts or his inconsistencies will continue down the line. Closing it out, Mohammed Nawaz was phenomenal down the stretch after he really proved his worth in not allowing the big shots and creating a wicket-taking threat once again, even though he didn’t actually get any this time.

Pakistan: Strong Finish That Really Matched Their Bowling Tempo Today

On Pakistan’s side, another key thing was their batting performance, which really helped their other side look even stronger. Not being known for having complete games during prior times, which cost them many times, today it was clear as day that it really supported them. With the opening pair having continued to be consistent, they had struck a combined 54 runs before Sahibzada Farhan ended up getting removed on a beautiful delivery from Corbin Bosch. Seeing that he matched his last match by scoring 28 runs here on just 23 balls, this was someone who did it while also adding three massive sixes that were launched all around the ground.

Meanwhile, Saim Ayub was the true master of today because he guided this side through the whole run chase. Even when Farhan got out, he managed to remain very similar throughout the innings and landed at a half-century. In a partnership which went for over 60 runs, it was very clear that he carried the load while Babar Azam was just sitting back and enjoying it. With Azam only scoring 11 runs during that period, Ayub managed to finish at 71, while having 11 combined boundaries. Having a strike rate that was very close to 200 and launching 5 sixes down the ground, he also hit the gaps by smacking in 6 boundaries to finish of his masterful innings.

South Africa: Miserable Bowling Performance Had Many Former Options Looking Rough

For South Africa, their bowlers really seemed to struggle to do much and had a hard time handling pressure. With Nandre Burger keeping his economy at 7.00 during this match, one major downfall was he couldn’t create any wicket-taking threat and kept missing his line when it was close. Seeing Otneil Bartmaan coming from the other end, this was one piece who really had a tough time keeping his runs per over low as they reached a massive total of 17. Although Corbin Bosch had picked up a wicket he was going near a 8.50 economy as well, and Lungi Ngidi couldn’t close out well either, as he didn’t get anyone out today or was close to.
