PAK vs SA Match Review 1st T20I: The Proteas Cruise Through This Match With A Clear Element of Dominance Throughout

Heading into the first T20I between South Africa and Pakistan, it seemed very clear that one side had a clear advantage in this match, given the talent difference. Seeing that this Proteas unit dominated all phases of the game, including batting, bowling, and fielding, it became quite clear they were the much better overall side. Despite not having many of their normal starters like Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada, their other pieces showed what type of threat they could put on when needed. Captain Donovan Ferreira deserved a lot of credit, as he seemed like he’s been leading this series for years, despite it only being the early phases of his international career.

For Pakistan, there will be a lot to talk about heading into the second match, as they seemed completely outclassed in many areas. A group that has really been on the downfall for the past couple years and not seeming to find any consistency in their game, this has almost become a period where their side may need to call for change once again. Looking at them still having two matches left in this series, they will need to make sure they find some style of hope in order to lead them towards a positive light for future times. Their captain in Salman Ali Agha, has shown not be dependable at all and will need to just focus on cricket rather than outside controversies following him.

Proteas Have A Smashing Innings That Leads Them To A Very High Total

Looking at the way South Africa batted today, it was really great to see the amount of power a ton of their pieces showed and how they were able to back each other. Opener Quinton De Kock started showing signs of his old self as he went for 23 runs on just 13 balls and kept finding open boundaries. Hitting 5 fours around the ground that were well-timed helped Reeza Hendricks get off to a flier of a start as well, with them combining for 44 runs. As De Kock’s wicket was then taken, the biggest partnership of this match was between Tony De Zorzi and Hendricks as they were able to take this side well past the 90-run mark. Seeing that De Zorzi made his debut in this format, it was a fantastic 33-run knock with one massive six and five well-played fours.

As they ended up at the 93/2 mark, Dewald Brevis looked like a real threat during his first couple deliveries before absolutely getting fooled by Mohammed Nawaz. Then right after that happened, Matthew Breetzke was immediately taken out too, and the Proteas were really in trouble when captain Donovan Ferreira was removed for 10. But, the savior of today was George Linde, as he came in and first created an amazing partnership with Reeza Hendricks. The duo was able to score over 30 runs combined before Hendricks departed for 60 and left all the work up to the all-rounders. Corbin Bosch was able to hit a boundary towards the end, as Linde’s 36 runs became key in them reaching 194 runs.

Pakistan’s Bowling Attack Had A Nightmarish Performance To Forget

Now that we go on to Pakistan’s bowling performance today, it was pretty clear that today was a day for them to completely leave behind. With their main right-handed pacer in Shaheen Afridi allowing over 11 runs per over in his 4, he was able to make the figures a little better with his late wicket. Someone who has continued struggling against some of the top-notch teams around the world, he has really continued this similar style of bowling and never seems to hit the right areas near the stumps. As Naseem Shah also had a horrific performance from the right end, he allowed 34 runs in his 3 overs and was completely missing his line on most deliveries.

With Abrar Ahmed getting smacked around after he was another piece that allowed an economy over 10, it was kind of tough for them to find any positive pieces. Salman Ali Agha tried bowling one over of spin from the right-end, but he allowed 15 runs and was being taken on pretty easily. Although Saim Ayub did take two wickets in this match, he was kind of in a similar position because it was quite clear that he couldn’t get any turn on his deliveries and got taken on very simply towards the end. The only real piece that showed up today was Mohammed Nawaz, as the left-handed medium pacer did pick up 3 wickets and went for a little over 6 runs per over.

Pakistan Started Their Batting Attack Very Slowly Again And Got Dominated

Pakistan had a real problem with the bat as well today because they weren’t able to provide any type of threat during the massive run chase. Opener Sahibaza Farhan did provide some prowess early on by scoring 24 runs and hitting four boundaries, but once he was gone their only real hope remained Saim Ayub. Looking at Babar Azam falling right after Farhan for two balls, their captain in Salman Ali Agha, had another very poor outing with the bat as he could on score two runs on 7 balls. With Ayub hitting 4 sixes and 37 runs within all this, he continued being their only positive piece who kept trying to charge up that run rate at a pretty high pace.

But, as soon as his wicket was gone, problems started once again since Hassan Nawaz was dismissed an over after him. With Usman Khan also being taken out for 12 after hitting one four, he ended being the 6th wicket in this match, and things started only getting worse. Faheem Ashraf couldn’t do much once again, as his power hitting has slowly gone down, and he’s not been able to score more than 5 many times. With Naseem Shah hitting two fours, he was removed right after Shaheen Afridi to trap Pakistan at 124/9. Although Mohammed Nawaz kept going and hit () runs, it almost became way too late for Pakistan to get close towards their required target.

South Africa Dominate With The Spinning and Pace Attack Throughout

For South Africa, this bowling performance was not one to forget, as it seemed like they were handling the pressure very well. Although their main pacer in Lungi Ngidi ended up very expensive towards the end of this match, his first few overs were full of impactful deliveries. Having a wonderful clean-bowled in this game when momentum seemed like it was shifting, he did great from the right end with Corbin Bosch as the other righty had 4/14 figures. From the left-end, Nandre Burger was a bit expensive today and didn’t seem like his normal self, but that was also partly because their main spinner in George Linde, picked up three big-time wickets. Closing it out, Lizaad Williams had 2/22 figures and ended this match.
