Bangladesh roared like lions today as they thrashed West Indies by a whopping 179 run to win the match and clinch the series 2-1. Bangladesh came out all guns blazing and thrashed West Indies in all departments of the game to get important points in the standings for 2027 ODI World Cup. Winning the toss and deciding to bat first, Bangladesh rode on Soumya Sarkar’s 91 off 86 balls and Saif Hassan’s 80 off 72 balls to power Bangladesh to 296/8 in 50 overs.
In the chase, West Indies were skittled out for 117 in 30.1 overs with no one really getting going. Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain picked up 3 wickets apiece while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Tanvir Islam picked up 2 wickets apiece. Soumya Sarkar & Saif Hassan powers Bangladesh to 296/8 in 50 overs.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar came out to bat for Bangladesh while Akeal Hosein had ball in hand for West Indies. Saif got off the mark with a boundary by lofting it over the bowler’s head for a boundary. Saif was on a roll as he shuffled across and got down on one knee and paddled it to deep fine leg for a boundary. Roston Chase came onto bowl from the other end. He started with a maiden over. Hosein continued as Saif took the aerial route and lofted it over deep extra cover for the maximum.
Chase continued and induced an edge of Sarkar through slip and keeper for a boundary. Hosein bowled a decent over. Chase continued as Sarkar innovated and played the switch hit over deep backward point for the maximum. Hosein continued as Sarkar hit through the line and smashed it over the bowler’s head for a boundary. Chase continued as Sarkar cut it hard past the point fielder for a boundary. Sarkar then launched Chase by the reverse sweep it over backward point region for the maximum. Saif then launched Chase over the bowler’s head for the maximum.
Khary Pierre was introduced into the attack next. Saif then played the reverse sweep and beat the man at backward point to his left for a boundary. Pierre though he had Saif dismissed for LBW but the batter reviewed and the inside edge saved the batter there. Justin Greaves came into the attack to bowl the final over of powerplay. Sarkar just helped it on its way past deep backward square leg for a boundary.
Sarkar once again hit Greaves for a boundary down the leg as he clipped it away to right of short fine leg for a boundary. Bangladesh had raced away to 74/0 in 10 overs at the completion of the mandatory powerplay. Pierre continued after the powerplay and bowled a decent over. Greaves continued as Saif stepped out and smashed it over the bowler’s head for the maximum. Pierre continued and bowled a quiet over.
Gudakesh Motie came into the attack next. Soumya Sarkar reached his fifty in 48 balls. Pierre bowled a tight over. Saif then got a life as Carty dropped a tough catch at mid-on. Saif then took it on as he smashed Motie over wide long-on for the maximum as the 100 came up for Bangladesh in 15.3 overs. Saif then reached his fifty with a boundary over mid-on as he got there in 44 balls.
Pierre continued as Sarkar gave himself room and thumped it over long-on for the maximum. Alick Athanaze came into the attack next. He bowled a decent over as Bangladesh were 123/0 in 18 overs. The players paused for the Drinks Break. Pierre continued after the break and kept it tight. Sarkar then hit Athanaze as he went inside out over extra cover for a boundary. Motie continued and bowled an important over. Chase came back and Saif took the attack to Chase by reverse sweeping between backward point and short third man for a boundary. Then he smashed Chase down on one knee and whacked it over deep midwicket for the maximum. Motie continued as Saif flicked it away over short midwicket for the maximum. Chase continued and bowled a quiet over. Motie continued again as Sarkar went down on one knee and slogged it straight down the ground over long-on for the maximum. Rutherford failed to take the catch. Sarkar the pulled it away to deep backward square leg for a boundary.
At the halfway stage of the game, Bangladesh were 176/0 in 25 overs. Chase finally got the breakthrough as he removed Saif Hassan for 80 off 72 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes to his name. Chase bowled it full and tossed up outside off-stump. Saif got down on one knee and looked to smash that over midwicket and didn’t get to the pitch of the ball and it went straight up in the air. Hosein returned and bowled a maiden over. Greaves returned and bowled another quiet over. Hosein struck for West Indies removing Sarkar for 91 off 86 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes to her name. Hosein from over the wicket bowled full and outside off-stump. Sarkar got down on one knee and went for the slog sweep. He didn’t get to the middle of the bat and the ball went into the hands of Auguste at deep midwicket who took it easily. Najmul Hossain Shanto came out to bat next. He got off the mark with a brace.
Greaves continued as Shanto took him on as he stepped out to go over long-on for the maximum. West Indies appealed for caught behind against Shanto but there was no spike and the decision stood with the visitors losing their review. Bangladesh were 194/2 in 30 overs. Hosein continued and bowled a quiet over. Motie returned to the attack as the 200 came up for Bangladesh in 31.4 overs. Motie then though he had removed Hridoy for caught behind, but the batter reviewed and got the decision in his favour as there was no edge. Hosein continued and bowled a tight over. Drinks was taken with Bangladesh at 203/2 in 33 overs.
Motie continued after the Break and bowled a decent over. Pierre continued and bowled a decent over. Alick Athanaze came back into the attack next and bowled another quiet over. Pierre continued as Hridoy finally broke the shackles by going down on one knee and swept it behind square for a boundary. Athanaze bowled another miserly over. Pierre continued and bowled a decent over. Hridoy broke the shackles as he went inside out over covers for cracking boundary. The 50-run stand came up between these two players.
Athanaze then removed Hridoy for 28 off 44 balls with 2 fours to her name. Athanaze bowled full around leg stump, Hridoy got down on one knee and went for the slog sweep and didn’t get the timing right. Rutherford at deep backward square leg moved to his right and took a good catch. Mahidul Islam Ankon came onto bowl next. Bangladesh were 231/3 in 40 overs.
Pierre continued as Shanto drove it inside out over extra cover for the maximum. Pierre ended her spell as well. Shanto took on Athanaze as he hit it down the ground over long-off. Hosein tried his best to take the catch but failed to flick it back and the ball went away for the maximum. The keeper missed the stumping chance as Shanto survived. Chase continued as Shanto was again dropped by Motie who made a great effort from long-off to run to his right and dived full length, but could not hold onto the catch. 250 came up for Bangladesh in 42.5 overs.
Athanaze then removed Shanto for 44 off 55 balls with 3 sixes to his name. Athanaze bowled full and tossed up around off-stump, Shanto got down on one knee and went for the slog sweep. He didn’t get anywhere near that and the ball went straight up in the air. Athanaze ran back and dived full length to keep his eyes on the ball and completed a stunning catch. Rishad Hossain came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.
Greaves continued and bowled a decent over as Bangladesh reached 259/4 in 45 overs. Hosein came back into the attack and got rid of Ankon for 6 off 10 balls. Akeal from around the wicket bowled full and at the leg stump that gripped in the surface and turned away a fraction. Ankon made room on the leg side and looked to smash it down the ground. She gets beaten on the outside edge and the ball cannoned into the off-stump. Nasum Ahmed came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.
Hosein then removed Rishad for 3 off 6 balls. Hosein bowled short of a length on off-stump that turned away. Rishad rocked on the back foot and went for the pull shot. He got it from the middle of the bat but failed to time it well. It went straight down the throat of Pierre who made no mistake. Nurul Hasan came out to bat next and got off the mark as well. Akeal got another as he dismissed Nasum for 1 off 2 balls.
Akeal bowled full and tossed up outside off-stump. Nasum looked to smash it down the ground but failed to get the timing right. The ball went straight into the safe pair of hands of Ackeem Auguste who took a simple catch at long-on. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz came out to bat next. Greaves continued as Miraz steered it to deep backward point for a boundary. Hosein continued and bowled a good over to finish his great spell.
Greaves continued as Nurul cleared his front leg and launched it over long-on for the maximum. Nurul then swung across the line and got it to the right of deep square leg as the ball races away to the fence. Motie was given the final over as Greaves put down Miraz at long-on. Motie dismissed Miraz for 17 off 17 balls with a boundary to his name.
Motie bowled full and outside off-stump, Miraz cleared his front leg and looked to smash it down the ground. It didn’t time it well and the ball landed straight into the hands of Auguste who took a good catch. Bangladesh ended with 296/8 in 50 overs with Nurul Hasan remaining unbeaten on 16 off 8 balls with one four and one six to his name. 10 extras given by the West Indies.

Gudakesh Motie finished with 1/53 in 8 overs. Khary Pierre finished with 0/46 in 10 overs. Justin Greaves finished with 0/61 in 7 overs. It meant West Indies needed 297 runs to win the contest to win the series 2-1.

Chasing 297 for the win, Alick Athanaze and Brandon King came out to bat for West Indies while Nasum Ahmed had ball in hand for Bangladesh. Athanaze got a reprieve as Nasum dropped a tough chance of his own bowling. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz had ball in hand for Bangladesh from the other end. Miraz bowled a quiet over as well. Nasum thought he had gotten rid of King for LBW as the finger went up. But the batter reviewed and replays showed there was clear inside edge onto the pads. Miraz continued as Athanaze broke the shackles by going down on one knee and slog swept it over deep midwicket for the maximum.
Nasum continued and got rid of Athanaze for 15 off 21 balls with a maximum to his name. Nasum bowled it full and outside off, Athanaze shuffled across and went for the sweep but missed and wore it on the front pad. They all went up and so did the finger. Athanaze had a chat with his partner and decided not to review. Ackeem Auguste came out to bat next.
Miraz continued as King took the attack to him by going down on one knee and slogged it over deep midwicket for the maximum. King got down on one knee and swept it to the left of short fine leg for a boundary. Nasum got another as he dismissed Auguste for a bronze duck. Nasum bowled full and tossed up around off turning in. Auguste bent his back knee and went for the sweep but missed it and wore it high on the front pad. The appeal was turned down. Bangladesh reviewed and got the decision overturned in their favour with three reds. Good use of the review. Keacy Carty came out to bat next.
Tanvir Islam came onto bowl next. He bowled a miserly over. King took the attack to Nasum by cutting it behind square for a boundary. Nasum then came back straightaway and got rid of King for 18 off 17 balls with 2 fours and a maximum to his name. Nasum bowled an arm ball on a length on off-stump that skidded off the surface. King went on the back foot and looked to cut but missed and the ball cannoned into the off-stump. Shai Hope came out to bat next.
Islam continued and bowled a quiet over. At the end of the first powerplay of 10 overs, West Indies were 39/3. Nasum continued after the powerplay and bowled a maiden over. Tanvir also kept it simple. Rishad Hossain came into the attack next. He too started with a decent over. Tanvir struck and got rid of the big fish Shai Hope for 4 off 16 balls. Tanvir tossed it up around off-stump and lured the batter into a big shot. Hope looked to hoick it over long-on and did not get to the pitch of the ball. He got a top edge which went high and landed safely into the hands of point fielder. Sherfane Rutherford came out to bat next.
Rishad continued as Rutherford square punched it past covers for a boundary. The 50 came up for West Indies in 14.3 overs. Tanvir continued and bowled a miserly over. Rishad continued as Rutherford leaned forward and drove it hard to sweeper boundary for a boundary. Mehidy Hasan Miraz came back into the attack next and bowled a miserly over. Rishad dismissed Rutherford for 12 off 16 balls with 2 fours to his name.
Rishad bowled full at the stumps tossed up. Rutherford tried to drive it on the off-side but got it on the inside half of the bat because of the turn on the ball. The ball looped in the air and went for simple catch at short midwicket fielder who made no error in taking the catch. Drinks was taken at this stage after which Roston Chase came out to bat.
Rishad had another as he dismissed Chase for a bronze duck. Rishad bowled a full toss at stumps. Chase ended up gibing a top edge while trying to slog it on the leg side. The ball skied up in the air and the long-on fielder took a well-judged catch after running forward. Justin Greaves came out to bat next and got off the mark soon. Islam bowled a quiet over as West Indies reached 65/6 in 20 overs. Rishad continued and bowled miserly over. Tanvir then got a wicket as he removed Carty for 15 off 43 balls.
Tanvir dropped it touch short and outside off turning away. Carty rocked back and looked to punch and hit it away from the body and chipped it straight to cover point fielder. Gudakesh Motie came out to bat next. Rishad continued and bowled another good over. Tanvir bowled another solid over. Miraz bowled another quiet over as West Indies at the halfway stage of the chase were reeling at 78/7 in 25 overs.
Rishad continued as Motie rocked back and powered the punch towards the sweeper for a boundary. Rishad got rid of Motie for 7 off 12 balls with a boundary to his name. Rishad bowled a leg break on a length outside off-stump and the ball turned in sharply, Motie had no clue of it whatsoever, and the ball hit it on his back pads. The umpire raised his finger. Akeal Hosein came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway. Miraz continued as Hosein stepped down the track and lofted it over mid-off for a boundary. Rishad bowled another good over.
Mehidy then struck as he got rid of Greaves for 15 off 33 balls. Miraz bowled a length ball at the middle stump with the ball turning in sharply and went down the the leg. Greaves tried to tuck it down to square leg but got a faint edge as the ball passed his bat. The ball went straight into the hands of the keeper. Khary Pierre came out to bat next.
Rishad continued as Hosein launched him by going down on one knee and launched it over long-on for the maximum. The 100 came up for West Indies in 29.1 overs. Hosein then rocked back and cut it past slip fielder for a boundary. Akeal was on a roll as he got to the pitch of the ball and caressed through the covers for a boundary. Akeal again smashed the bowler over Rishad’s head for a boundary. 20 came off the over.
Miraz finished the game off now as he removed Hosein for 27 off 15 balls with 4 fours and a maximum to his name, Mehidy bowled fullish at middle stump with the ball turning away sharply and hit the off-stump. Hosein after playing so good in the previous over tried to defend it but the ball passed the outside edge to hit the off-stumps. Pierre was unbeaten on 0 off 2 balls as West Indies were skittled out for 117 in 30.1 overs. Juts 4 extras given by Bangladesh.
Bangladesh bowled really well with Nasum Ahmed being the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/11 in 6 overs. Rishad Hossain finished with 3/54 in 9 overs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz finished with 2/35 in 7.1 overs. Tanvir Islam finished with 2/16 in 8 overs. Only 4 bowlers were used and they did the job. So, Bangladesh win by a whopping 179 runs. Soumya Sarkar was awarded the Player of the Match while Rishad Hossain was awarded the Player of the Series as Bangladesh won the series 2-1.
What Lies Ahead.
The ODI series is done and dusted with Bangladesh winning it 2-1. It will be time for the T20I series to begin at Chattogram where all three matches will be held. The first of those matches will be held on 27th October at 5:30 PM IST. Let’s see how these two teams fare in the shortest format of the game with T20 World Cup in the horizon next year.
