SA vs PAK: The Proteas Have Control Of This Match After Day Three Is Officially Over With A Historical Partnership
Heading into the third day of this test match between South Africa and Pakistan, it was clear that the momentum completely shifted despite it looking different earlier on in the day. Seeing that the Proteas are the side that made a massive comeback, they have continued developing themselves into non-chokers and really seem to have found a winning stride lately. With them proving to the world, they are no longer out of hope when even a jolt of confidence is gone, it’s clear that Temba Bavuma has played a critical role in setting up the squad like this, even though he doesn’t play. Looking at Aiden Markram following his exact type of leadership style, it’s shown how much of a motivating factor he has been for this team.
Meanwhile, Pakistan seem to be completely out of urgency and willingness to win since they remain the team that loses confidence when something goes wrong. A match they had seemed to control earlier on, as soon as something went wrong, it felt like everything fell apart for them, with their perfect WTC record already at risk. Playing in Asian conditions where they had a clear advantage with the number of spinners they present, they lost out on it and will look to see if they can feature some shocking surprise tomorrow. A group that is led by Shan Masood, he has shown to have some tremendous comebacks when being the head of this side, but this is something that will pose a new challenge.
South Africa Finish Their Innings With A Bang Despite Early Problems
When we see the Proteas batting effort today, it is very clear that they didn’t give up and kept fighting till the very end, even when many major pieces continued struggling. Starting the day out at 185/4, immediate problems followed with Kyle Verreynne losing his wicket for 10. Someone who has struggled to keep any consistency in that middle order, his wicket brought in their main star of the show for today, in Senuran Muthuswamy. As Simon Harmer fell for 2 and Marco Jansen couldn’t make much of his innings, him and Keshav Maharaj really uplifted South Africa’s spirits after they were stranded at 235/8 during the 84.4 over mark.
Seeing that Mahraj was able to score 30 runs in their 71-run partnership, he hit three wonderful boundaries and looked absolutely in form throughout his innings. Not getting the ability to make an impact like this with the bat in a while, he had Muthuswamy on the other end, who scored about 40 runs during that period. With Mahraj getting removed at 306/9 and South Africa having to rely on Kagiso Rabada to score big, it’s exactly what he did as the left-handed batsmen created another near 100 partnership. As he got over the half-century mark at 71 runs and hit 8 wonderful boundaries, Muthuswamy was more controlled on the other end to hit 89 runs, while creating 8 boundaries for South Africa to hit 404/10.
Pakistan’s Bowling Attack Had An Absolute Nightmare Throughout This Day
For the Pakistan bowlers, this was one performance they had to complete forget about as it seemed like they couldn’t have any control over batsmen. With Asif Afridi being their only key factor after taking 6 wickets, he had to bowl 34 long overs and may not have enough energy to persevere for the 2nd innings. Left-handed pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi couldn’t find the middle of the stumps at all, and it felt like many batsmen were able to easily play him for boundaries towards the end of his spell. Giving up 95 in his 26 overs, this is someone who usually is overly dependent on his wickets, and when that doesn’t happen, his performances don’t really go great, like today.
The most surprising aspect was seeing Sajid Khan go for 119 runs without creating any pressure at any point in the innings. Knowing that he was a huge game-changer during that first test match, things haven’t looked the same for him at all, while seeming more out of energy than anything. Not being able to create spin either, the pitch wasn’t very favorable to him because it became more batter-friendly towards the end. Another significant factor was Noman Ali not posing much of a threat, as he is another key player on this team known for clean-bowling some of the top batsmen. With Salman Ali Agha getting two overs to round the attack, his economy ended up near 5.00.
The Proteas Bowling Attack Starts Off With A Banger After A Strong Batting Finish
Now that we entered the 2nd innings of Pakistan’s batting, where they trailed by a shocking 71, South Africa were able to attack pretty quickly and put them in even more tension. Making them 94/4, with just a 23 run lead at the current stage, Simon Harmer has already made a huge impact from the right end with an amazing turn on the ball. Known for getting batsmen to turn into uncomfortable positions for shots, he picked three wickets already and has just given up two runs an over in his 13. Looking for more prowess tommorow, he is going to be an option that will really shutdown star batters like he removed Shan Masood today.
Meanwhile, he was also able to take out opener Iman-Ul Haq and Saud Shakeel pretty quickly, while Kagiso Rabada has the one wicket for pacers so far. A bowler that continues proving his elite-level talent and great action that has a strong whip, he’s able to center the ball into batsmen’s legs. Also showing the short ball with a change-of-pace, he nearly got a couple catching opportunties and was fantastic with one maiden over as well. Knowing that Keshav Mahraj has remained a key spinner from the left end, as he already went in for 10 overs, he had a key maiden and allowed just a 3.00 economy. Closing it out, Marco Jansen has had quite an impactful performance in his few overs as well.
What Lies Ahead For Tommorow?
As South Africa are going to be in complete command heading into tomorrow, they will be looking to bowl out Pakistan with relative ease. If they can take Babar Azam out, who is currently at 49 runs and looking to cross 50, it will be key since Pakistan’s only real option would be Salman Ali Agha for any fight back. Knowing that Muthusamy has yet to bowl any overs yet, he can take charge as he did during first match, while the Proteas are also hoping for something from Marco Jansen after a while. Having all the confidence built in for them tomorrow, they will try bowling out Pakistan as early as possible, and the batting lineup will try storming up runs quite quickly.
