Hundred 2025: Rashid Khan’s 3-Wicket Haul Seals An Emphatic Win For Oval Invincibles

Rashid Khan continued his rich vein of form as his second consecutive 3-wicket haul sealed an emphatic win for Oval Invincibles over Manchester Originals at The Oval in London. Rashid Khan fired with the ball in the first game and was once again amongst the wickets in this fixture. Rashid’s 3/19 alongside 2 wickets apiece for Jason Behrendorff, Saqib Mahmood and Sam Curran restricted the Originals to 128 all out in 100 balls.

In reply, Oval Invincibles were in a hurry courtesy of their openers Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye as the duo put on 114 runs in 49 balls. Jacks was dismissed for 61 off 26 balls while Muyeye was unbeaten on 59 off 28 balls as the target was achieved in 57 balls. The defending champions have made it 2 wins out of 2 and are at the top of the points table with 8 points. Manchester after this defeat are at the bottom of the points table.

Rashid Khan’s 3-wicket haul restricts Manchester Originals to 128

Philip Salt and Matthew Hurst walked out to open the batting for the Originals while Jason Behrendorff had the new ball for Oval Invincibles. Salt got off the mark with a maximum to make his intentions clear as he became the first player to complete 1,000 runs in Hundred. Saqib Mahmood bowled the next set and he was launched by Salt for a maximum. Salt also hit a boundary off Mahmood by clobbering him down the ground.

Jason Behrendorff provided the first breakthrough for Oval Invincibles getting rid of Hurst for a golden duck. Jason bowled from over the wicket full delivery outside off angling across. Hurst chased at it with his hands and does not move his feet. He got an outside edge that is taken by Billings behind the stumps. Jos Buttler walked out to bat at 3. Buttler too fell for a 4-ball duck to Jason Behrendorff.

Jason bowled a fuller length around off, Buttler looked to swing across the line and got it off the inside half of the bat. It went aerially towards short midwicket. Donovan Ferreira moved to his right and took a sharp catch inside the circle. Mark Chapman came out to bat next. Chapman got himself going by getting off the mark with a boundary off Jason. Jason then gave away four leg byes and gifted five wides as well to the batting side.

Tom Curran came to bowl the final set of powerplay. Curran bowled a no ball and Salt dispatched the free hit for the maximum at deep square leg. At the end of 25 balls of powerplay, Manchester Originals were 43/2. Rashid Khan came onto bowl after the powerplay. Chapman hit a short delivery from Rashid for a boundary as the 50 came up in 29 balls. Nathan Sowter came into the attack next and was drilled down the ground by Chapman.

Oval were going with spin as Will Jacks was introduced into the attack as Chapman punished a loose ball for another maximum over deep square leg. Soon, the 50-run stand was up between Chapman and Salt. But Rashid broke the partnership getting rid of Chapman for 28 off 19 balls with 3 fours and a six to his name. Rashid bowled a googly fuller length around off, Chapman stepped down the track looking to go big down the ground. He got a top edge that goes straight up in the air. Donovan Ferreira at short cover settled underneath it to take the catch. Heinrich Klaasen came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.

Sam Curran was introduced into the attack and bowled a decent set as Manchester Originals after 50 balls at the halfway stage of the game were 73/3. Nathan Sowter kept things tight as well. Soon Saqib Mahmood struck getting rid of Heinrich Klaasen for 6 off 10 balls. Mahmood bowled fuller length outside off with a hint of away movement. Klaasen stayed rooted in his crease and looked to hit through the line. He got a top edge that went high in the air. Will Jacks at mid-off called for it and settled underneath it to take the catch. George Garton came out to bat next.

Rashid Khan also bowled a tight set as he was keeping things tight like he always does. Sam Curran struck for his side as he got rid of George Garton for 4 off 8 balls. Curran bowled a full and slower delivery at leg stump which was a back of the hand delivery. Garton looked to heave across the line and played the shot way too early. He missed the straight ball as it went and crashed into the stumps. Lewis Gregory came out to bat next.

Gregory got his first boundary drilling through the covers off Sowter. After 75 balls, Manchester Originals were 92/5. Gregory hit Tom Curran for a boundary as the 100 came up for Manchester Originals in 79 balls. Rashid Khan came into bowl his final set and got rid of Lewis Gregory for 14 off 11 balls with 2 boundaries to his name. Rashid bowled it fuller tossed up outside off turning in, Gregory got down on his knee and went for the slog but missed it. The ball snuck through the game and shattered the stumps. Scott Currie came out to bat next.

Rashid Khan then got the big fish and form batter Philip Salt for 41 off 32 balls with a boundary and 3 sixes to his name. Rashid tossed it up at the stumps, Salt went for the slog sweep but got a top edge that went straight into the hands of Nathan Sowter at deep backward square leg. Noor Ahmad came out to bat next. Sam Curran got rid of Noor for a golden duck. Sam bowled it full and at the off-stump from over the wicket. Noor looked to flick it against the angle and got a leading edge that went straight into the hands of Jason Behrendorff at backward point. Sonny Baker came out to bat next.

Currie hit Curran for an important boundary as the batters survived a run out scare soon. Saqib Mahmood got a wicket to his name as he dismissed Baker for 1 off 2 balls. Mahmood bowled a short ball outside off, Baker mistimed the pull and the ball goes straight into the hands of the mid-on fielder. Jordan Cox made no mistake as James Anderson walked out to bat for Manchester Originals. Currie hit back-to-back boundaries off Mahmood to keep the scoreboard moving.

Currie hit Sam Curran for another boundary in the last set. The innings ended with a run out as Currie was the last man run out for 21 off 9 balls with 4 boundaries to his name. The batters tried to sneak in a bye but failed as Billings hit the bulls eye Anderson remained unbeaten on 2 off 4 balls. 11 extras given by the fielding side as Originals finished with 128 in 100 balls.

Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers for Oval Invincibles with figures of 3/19 in 20 balls. He was ably supported by other bowlers like Jason Behrendorff who finished with 2/16 in 15 balls. Saqib Mahmood chipped in with 2/26 in 15 balls. Sam Curran bowled another great spell for his 2/17 in 20 balls. Nathan Sowter gave away 17 runs in 15 balls despite not picking up a wicket. This meant that the defending champions Oval Invincibles needed 129 runs to win off 100 balls to make it 2 wins out of 2 matches.

Will Jacks, Tawanda Muyeye leads Oval Invincibles to an emphatic win

Chasing 129 for the win, Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye came out to bat for Oval Invincibles while the great James Anderson had ball in hand. Jacks made his intentions very clear as he smashed Anderson for a maximum over deep third man. Jacks was not done there as he hit Anderson for another boundary through midwicket. George Garton bowled the next set and Jacks hit him over short fine leg for a boundary while Muyeye also joined the party by hitting a boundary through midwicket.

Will Jacks continued to take on Anderson hitting him for consecutive boundaries while Muyeye smashed the veteran bowler for another boundary down the ground. Sonny Baker came into the attack and was not spared either as Jacks hit him for a hat-trick of boundaries as Oval were running away with the contest. Noor Ahmad came into the attack and was welcomed with a boundary by Muyeye as the 50 came up and of the partnership in 21 balls.

Muyeye then hit Noor for a hat-trick of boundaries to end the 5th set. At the end of 25 balls of powerplay, Oval Invincibles had gotten themselves to 65/0. Lewis Gregory came into the attack but it didn’t matter to be honest. Muyeye first hit Gregory for back-to-back boundaries before going off strike and then Jacks hit a boundary as well as the defending champions were in a hurry to finish this off. Muyeye got a lucky boundary through third man of Noor.

Scott Currie came into the attack and at last bowled a decent set but the damage was already done by then. Muyeye then hit Noor for a maximum over deep midwicket into the stands to get to his maiden fifty in 22 balls. Soon, the 100 came up for Oval and of the partnership in just 45 balls. Jacks soon completed his half-century getting there with a boundary as he completed his milestone in 23 balls. There was no stopping Jacks today as he hit Gregory for a maximum and followed that up with another boundary. Gregory finally got a wicket getting rid of Jacks for 61 off 26 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes to his name.

Gregory bowled it short and wide outside off, Jacks looked to tonk it downtown but managed to drag it straight to wide long-on where Currie took a simple catch. Jordan Cox came out to bat next and got off the mark with a brace. After 50 balls at the halfway stage of the chase, Oval were already at 116/1 chasing 129 for the win. Muyeye hit Currie for a boundary using deft touch on this occasion guiding the ball.

The winning moment soon came as Jordan Cox hit the winning runs by hitting Baker for a boundary through long leg as the Oval team won by 9 wickets with 43 balls to spare. Cox was unbeaten on 7 off 3 balls with a boundary to his name while Muyeye was unbeaten on 59 off 28 balls with 10 fours and a six to his name. 2 extras given by the fielding side.

Lewis Gregory picked up the only wicket to fall as he finished with 1/31 in 10 balls. The rest went for loads of runs and failed to keep it tight in this one-sided game. So, Oval makes it 2 wins out of 2 and are top of the points table while Manchester have lost both their games and are placed at the bottom of the table. For his impressive 3-wicket haul, Rashid Khan was awarded the Player of the Match Award.
