ENG vs IND : Ryan Ten Doeschate Gives A Massive Update On Jasprit Bumrah

India’s superstar pacer Jasprit Bumrah while giving his opinion on England’s aggressive brand of cricket, which is famously termed as ‘Bazball’, said that he finds it interesting but doesn’t understand it much. Team India is embarking on a new era in Test cricket, with Shubman Gill stepping into a leadership role with able hands of experience like KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah to guide him .

This transition comes at a challenging time, with just few days to the start of India’s tour of England. With a relatively inexperienced batting lineup, notably without the stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, massive responsibilities will fall upon the bowling department, which is set to be led by the formidable Jasprit Bumrah.

The Indian cricket team faces a do-or-die situation in the five-match Test series against England, one decision that still hangs in air is whether Jasprit Bumrah will be included in the fourth Test at Old Trafford. Jasprit Bumrah has been the bowler who delivers crucial breakthroughs for India. If Shubman Gill and Co. want to bounce back from the heartbreaking defeat at Lord’s in the third Test, Jasprit Bumrah needs to play.

In such high-pressure situations, teams look to their match-winners, and Jasprit Bumrah is one such player. Jasprit Bumrah’s capacity to break partnerships, hit early with the new ball, and bowl game-changers makes him indispensable when the pressure is greatest. With England already leading in the series 2-1, the fourth Test is a virtual do-or-die match for India. A defeat would hand over the series to the hosts and at this crucial juncture Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion becomes more vital for the Indian team.

Jasprit Bumrah’s impressive performances in ENG vs IND series.

Jasprit Bumrah returned to Test cricket much like he had left it—leading the Indian attack and posing the biggest threat with the ball. Coming back from a stress reaction in his previously operated back, there had been serious concerns about whether he had been overbowled and how well he would recover. But at Headingley, Jasprit Bumrah quickly put those doubts to rest, once again establishing himself as the standout bowler on the field.

Jasprit Bumrah once again underlined why he is considered the best fast bowler in the world at present, producing a masterful five-wicket haul to hand India a slender edge in the opening Test against England at Headingley. Jasprit Bumrah introduced England to the best of his skills with the fifer.

Jasprit Bumrah has been India’s pace backbone and has performed very well in the two Tests he has played till now. Overall, he has 12 wickets in 2 matches (4 innings) with an average of approximately 21. In the 1st Test, he took 5 wickets by giving away 83 runs in the first innings. In the 2nd Test he played at Lord’s, he took 5 wickets in the first innings and 2 in the second innings. Jasprit Bumrah completely rattled England’s batting order, and he has been India’s most effective bowler.

Following his talks about the workload maangement many had a believe that with the series on the line for Team India Jasprit Bumrah missing the all important 4th Test at Manchester could be the huge blow for the otherwise young Indian bowling line up. However India’s Assistant coach Ryan Ten Doescathe has given the good news with a definite view that Jasprit Bumrah will certainly play the 4th Test match at Manchester with series on the line for India.

Ryan Ten Doescathe confirms Jasprit Bumrah’s availibilty

India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, on Thursday, all but ended the speculations around whether Jasprit Bumrah will play the fourth Test match of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England. India are currently 1-2 down in the series, having lost the opener in Leeds last month and the third match at Lord’s last Monday. Their only win came in Birmingham earlier this month.

Before the Test series began, the BCCI had confirmed that Bumrah would feature in only three matches to manage his workload. Head coach Gautam Gambhir backed the plan, choosing to rest the pace spearhead for the second Test in Birmingham, despite growing calls to retain him after his sensational performance in the series opener at Leeds.

In Bumrah’s absence, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep rose to the occasion, each claiming a five-wicket haul as India clinched a dominant 336-run win to level the series. However, following India’s 22-run defeat at Lord’s in the third Test, experts once again called for Bumrah’s inclusion in the do-or-die Test match at the Old Trafford, which will begin next week, and the team management paid heed to the request this time.

Speaking to the media on Thursday after India’s first training session for the fourth Test, Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion.

“We’ll make that call in Manchester. We know we’ve got him for one of the last two Tests. I think it’s pretty obvious the series is on the line now in Manchester, so there will be a leaning towards playing him,” he said.

If India stay true to their word, this will be Jasprit Bumrah’s first appearance at the Old Trafford. India have yet to win a Test match in Manchester. In nine attempts at the venue thus far in history, they lost on four occasions to England, while five others ended in a draw. The last time India were due to play in Manchester, the match was cancelled after a Covid outbreak in their camp during the tour in 2021.

India initially intended to have Jasprit Bumrah play in just three Tests to balance his workload, particularly since his return from a severe back injury. Although such prudence is understandable, circumstances do count. In case India is beaten in the fourth Test, the fifth could be inconsequential as far as the series result is concerned. Strategically, it is wiser to deploy Bumrah now, with the series still competitive, rather than saving him for a potential dead rubber.

The Lord’s Test came to an end on July 14 and the next match is scheduled to be played on July 23 which provided ample time for Jasprit Bumrah to relax and rest his body.

Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion in the playing XI tends to change the psychological equation automatically. English batters, and especially the top order, have found it challenging against him in the past. Jasprit Bumrah’s very name in the team sheet compels the opposition to plan differently and quite often defensively, which could determine the course of the match before a single ball is bowled.
