On a special Mother’s Day at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, the Indian Women’s team faced off against Sri Lanka Women in the final of the Tri-Nation Series. It was a dominant performance from the visitors, who batted first and posted a massive total thanks to a brilliant century from Smriti Mandhana. Backed by strong contributions from the top order and some fiery finishing touches, India put Sri Lanka under immense pressure.
In response, Sri Lanka had a few solid partnerships, but the Indian bowlers, led by Sneh Rana with a superb four-wicket haul, never let them settle. With tight lines, smart fielding, and timely breakthroughs, India sealed a convincing win by 97 runs. The final turned out to be one-sided, but it was a day of celebration for India as they lifted the trophy in style and marked Mother’s Day with a memorable triumph.
India started strong, built steady, and finished with flair
The Women in Blue stepped into the light,
In Colombo’s heat, they sparked the fight.
Against the Lankans, fierce and proud,
Chamari’s fire echoed loud.
The coin went up – and luck chose us,
India to bat -no fuss, no rush.
Smriti and Pratika, calm and clear,
Took their stance with no hint of fear.
Mandara steamed in with early pace,
But Smriti greeted her with grace.
A four flew past, then came a six,
Right from the start -classic Smriti mix.
Pratika Rawal, young but wise,
Played with calm in her eyes.
Two neat fours, no flash, no flair,
But every shot placed with quiet care.
The stand began to take its shape,
Boundaries came, bowlers had to gape.
But at seventy, a soft goodbye,
Pratika fell – a clean supply.
Then Harleen walked, as smooth as silk,
Her wrists so fluent, her timing milk.
Smriti just flowed, no looking back,
A second fifty plus right on track.
She danced down, drove behind square,
Every stroke was art laid bare.
Then came the roar – her century rose,
She soaked the love, the cheers, the prose.
But all good tales must pause one day,
At 116, she gave it away.
A catch at deep, the end in sight,
Still, what a knock – pure delight.
Harleen was shaping her innings too,
But a mistimed chip bid her adieu.
Just three short of her half-ton mark,
She walked off, calm, left her spark.
In came Harman – strong and still,
Brought with her that fighting will.
A six she launched, loud and long,
Made sure the bowlers knew who’s strong.
Then came the edge -up in the air,
Gone for 41, but we didn’t despair.
She led by heart, played her part,
Left behind a captain’s chart.
Jemimah next bright and bold,
Played with flair, as good as gold.
Fours came easy, footwork fine,
But 44 was her finish line.
Richa walked in with a flash and smile,
Smashed a six in effortless style.
But just like that, she too was gone,
Still, the rhythm carried on.
Then Deepti and Amanjot stood tall,
Fought for every single ball.
Deepti struck three perfect fours,
While Amanjot added more to the scores.
Her crisp 18 with two straight drives,
Kept India buzzing, alive with vibes.
And in the end, they gave a cheer,
Fifteen more in the final gear.
Extras chipped in with a silent hand,
Eighteen more across the land.
Three-forty-two -the board did say,
India ruled the batting day.
From Pratika’s calm to Smriti’s fire,
Harleen’s touch and Harman’s desire.
Jemi’s flow and Deepti’s spark,
Each of them left their mark.
Now the bowlers lace their shoes,
To defend the dreams and chase the clues.
With grit stitched in each seam,
They played like fire — they lived the dream.
India’s bowlers were too hot to handle. Wickets fell like dominos, and Sri Lanka’s chase crumbled before it even started!
At the toss, the stakes were high,
Sri Lanka set out under the sky.
Perera and Gunarathne took first strike,
But Amanjot Kaur was sharp as a spike.
Hasini Perera- just three balls faced,
Clean bowled, her stumps displaced.
Gunarathne tried to build the base,
With 36 runs at a steady pace.
Five crisp fours, no six to see,
Then Amanjot said, “You’re done with me.”
Chamari Athapaththu, the captain bold,
Unleashed her shots, pure gold.
Fifty-one off sixty-six,
Six boundaries, one powerful flick.
But Sneh Rana brought the twist,
Sent Chamari back—one not to miss.
Silva and Harshitha then took the charge,
Stroking the gaps, both playing large.
Silva made 48 from 58,
But Rana returned—it was too late.
Harleen caught her, a fine display,
And soon the tide had turned India’s way.
Harshitha made 26, a stylish affair,
Till Amanjot struck again with flair.
Dewmi Vihanga couldn’t resist,
Caught by Sneh – another name on the list.
Samarawickrama tried to restore,
But she fell too- Sri Lanka sore.
Piumi Badalge run out, tight,
Richa and Amanjot- fielding bright.
Sugandika struck some graceful fours,
27 off 29, calming the roars.
But another run-out snatched the cheer,
Smriti and Rana -sharp and clear.
Madara lasted just one small ball,
Rana cleaned her up – a swift downfall.
Sanjeewani fought with 28,
But Rana again, would seal her fate.
245 all out in 48.2,
India’s bowlers knew what to do.
India chased with fire and flair,
But in this tale, that part’s not there.
For this was Sri Lanka’s final try,
But India soared, spirits high.
