IPL 2025: 3 Best Knocks By DC

Virender Sehwag 119 vs DCG in 2011

League match between Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils ( now changed to Delhi Capitals ) in 2011. DC batted first and scored 175 runs in 20 overs. Chasing a competitive total, DD lost Aaron Finch for duck in the first over. None of the DD batters except Sehwag looked comfortable on that night.

Virender Sehwag stood as a lone warrior in the middle and took the game away from DC single handedly. DD were reduced to 25/3 in 5.4 overs. Travis Birt came in and involved in a 61 run partnership with Sehwag. He got out when the team score is 86 in 10.2 overs. He scored 4 runs in 8 balls. The rest of the runs were scored by Sehwag. Then Irfan Pathan came in and Sehwag repeated the same with him also.

Sehwag scored his century in 48 balls which stood as a fastest 100 by a captain till Virat Kohli broke it in 2016. Sehwag got out when the team total was 153 in 16 overs. He scored 119 runs from 56 balls. James Hooper’s cameo helped DD from there to reach the target. DD won the match by 4 wickets and Sehwag was awarded the man of the match.

Rishabh Pant’s Carnage vs MI in 2019 at Wankhede

It was a league match between MI and DC in 2019. DC batted first and were moving towards a decent total of somehere between 180-190. Shikhar Dhawan and Colin Ingram scored 40 odd runs each. The score was 112/3 in 13 overs. Then Rishabh Pant walked in and played an absolute blinder of a knock. He smashed 78 runs off just 27 balls.

We can’t blame it on MI bowlers as well as they are bowling according to the plan but this was too good on that day. he scored 63 runs out of his 78 on leg side even though the bowlers were targeting him with outside the off stump deliveries. This match unveiled how ruthlessly dangerous Rishabh Pant could be in T20’s. DC posted 213 runs in 20 overs.

In reply, MI were never in the game and are keep on losing wicktets at crucial moments. They were bowled out for 176 runs in 20 overs, DC won by 37 runs. Those 37 runs difference was the impact of Rishabh Pant’s innings. He was the difference between two sides on that day.

Chris Morris 82 off 32 vs Gujarat Lions in 2016

This happened in a league match between Delhi and new team Gujarat Lions in 2017. Gujarat was the table toppers of that season and looked so strong. They batted first and scored 172 runs on the board. Chris Morris took 2 wickets. They were going very well with the run rate above 9. But the DD bowlers did really well in the death overs by giving just 30 odd runs in the last 5 overs.

In reply, Delhi struggled in the chase. They were down to 16/3. Then Rishabh Pant and Duminy built a partnership of 41 runs. Debutant Rishabh Pant got out for 20 runs. Then Morris walked in. DD required 116 runs in 56 balls at that time. At the time, DD fans almost gave up on the match at that time. But Morris put brought their hopes back by playing a counter attacking knock which was well supported by Duminy.

Chris Morris made the target reachable from nowhere. He scored his fifty in 17 balls which was the fastest of that season. When they were marching towards the victory JP Duminy got out at the crucial time. DD were 144/4 in 17 overs. Still Morris didn’t give up and took the game deeper. Delhi required 4 runs in the last ball with Morris on strike. He could only manage to get a double on the bowling of Dwayne Bravo and sadly his efforts went in vein. His knock of 82 runs in 32 balls would have become one of the all-time greatest knocks in IPL while chasing had if he took his team over the line. Still it is one of the most entertaining and underrated knocks for the franchise.
