Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has shown immense confidence in Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Harbhajan, praising Shubman Gill as an “unbelievable player,” believes the talented batsman will be among the top three run-scorers this season.
GT Captain Shubman Gill took over the Gujarat Titans’ captaincy last season after Hardik Pandya’s transfer to Mumbai Indians. Although the team struggled, securing only five wins from 14 matches and finishing eighth, Gill showcased his batting prowess. He amassed 426 runs in 12 games, averaging 38.72 with a strike rate of 147.40, including one century and two half-centuries.

In an interview with ESPNcricinfo, Harbhajan Singh highlighted GT Captain Shubman Gill’s exceptional batting technique. He commended the young right-hander’s ability to score freely while playing long innings, maintaining a strong strike rate without resorting to unconventional shots like reverse sweeps or switch hits. Harbhajan praised Gill’s front-foot dominance and clean stroke-making, emphasizing that these qualities will help him succeed in IPL 2025.
“Unbelievable player. I think he’s going to have a great season. The position at which he bats, he carries the team along. And it’s not like he bats slowly. He plays long innings at a strike rate of 140-150. You will always see him among the top five batters of the season. He’s so technically sound, it doesn’t seem like he will ever make a mistake,” said Harbhajan Singh.
Harbhajan concluded by expressing strong faith in Gill’s abilities, predicting that he will be among the top three run-getters this season.
“Yes, he didn’t quite get a lot of runs last season, but he was unbelievable the year before that. He’s a clean hitter and doesn’t need to play reverse sweeps or switch hits. His game in front of the wicket is so strong. We will probably see the best of Shubman Gill this season with the bat. Gill will be in the top three run-scorers for sure,” he added.

Shubman Gill began his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2018, playing until 2021. During his tenure with KKR, he accumulated 1,417 runs in 58 matches at an average of 31.48 and a strike rate of 123, with ten half-centuries.
Since moving to Gujarat Titans, Gill has become the franchise’s leading run-scorer. He has amassed 1,799 runs in 45 matches, averaging an impressive 44.97 with a strike rate of 147.70, including four centuries and ten fifties. His consistency and ability to anchor innings make him a crucial player for the Titans.
