South African keeper-batter, Quinton de Kock hopes that their recent loss against West Indies might be a boon for them ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024. The keeper-batter mentioned that they have never been able to register a win in the World Cup series when they have lost any series before the World Cup event.
Both South Africa and West Indies have been missing their key players. The latter lost the series to 3-0. South Africa failed to chase down the two T20 match targets, 176 and 206 respectively. The last and final match also went in the West Indies’ favor as they chased up the 164-run target in only 13.5 overs with eight wickets to spare.
I don’t have any concerns about the South African T20I Series result- Quinton de Kock
While having a conversation after South Africa’s series loss, Quinton De Kock remarked that his experience tells him that the Proteas might be benefited from this loss of the series ahead of the T20 World Cup. Quoted by iol.com.za, the latter mentioned:
“[I don’t have any] concerns [about the result], we don’t really have a full-strength team [here]. I’m not saying it’s an excuse but I think throughout my whole international career we’ve won every series going into a World Cup and we’ve never won the World Cup. Speaking from experience, I don’t know if this will do something good for us. Hopefully, it does.”
“For me it [the series defeat] doesn’t mean much. I’m just hoping some of the guys going to the World Cup get some confidence going into the tournament.”
The Proteas had a stable start in the 2023 World Cup, but they triped over in the semi-finals against the obvious champions Australia.
Quinton de Kock’s form hoists concern ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024
The southpaw’s form outraged sparks and questions regarding the upcoming T20 World Cup event. The 31-year-old was the highest run scorer in the 2023 World Cup series. But the latter has been struggling lately in the T20 format. He has only been able to score 4, 41, and 19 against West Indies in the series.
The left-hander accumulated only a total of 213 runs in 12 innings in SA20 this year and and bagged 250 runs in 11 innings averaging 22.73 in the IPL 2024.
