The all-around player and former Pakistani captain Shahid Afridi commended the Green Shirts for their desperately needed victory over Ireland in the ongoing Twenty20 International Series. In the second Twenty20 International, the Men in Green humiliated Ireland with a seven-wicket loss at the Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin on Sunday. Shahid Afridi praised wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Rizwan and batsman Fakhar Zaman but said that the team must have a similar mindset and strike rates for most of its batsmen in the World Cup.
On reaching 300 wickets in international matches, he also congratulated star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi. Azam Khan, Fakhar, and Rizwan’s efforts helped the Men in Green chase down the target in the seventeenth over. Pakistan’s recent triumph brought the three-match series to a 1-1 draw. Fakhar and Rizwan teamed together to create an enormous alliance. Their partnership of 140 runs, which broke the record of 105 between Rizwan and Haider Ali, is Pakistan’s highest for the third wicket in Twenty20 Internationals.
In his first game of the series, Mohammad Amir finished with 1/44, while Shaheen claimed three wickets but gave up 49 runs. Afridi Abbas took two wickets for 33 runs, and Naseem Shah took one wicket for 36 runs. The series finale will be held at the same venue on April 14.
According to Shahid Afridi, this victory is extremely important for Pakistan.
Following Pakistan’s victory over Ireland, Shahid Afridi, the former captain of the country, took to Twitter to tweet on X. In a competitive vein, he began criticizing the batsman and said that Pakistan would continue to play with the same mindset come the 2024 T20 World Cup. He concluded by congratulating Shaheen Shah Afridi on reaching 300 international runs.
“We needed this win. Well done team, the way Rizwan and Fakhar played. We need the same mindset in the World Cup and similar strike rates for most batsmen. Congrats to Shaheen on 300 international wickets,” Shahid Afridi
