Rishabh Pant performed admirably under difficult circumstances during India’s 2024 T20 World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh in New York on Saturday, June 1. Sanjay Manjrekar has praised Rishabh Pant for his performance. He pointed out that the wicketkeeper-batter demonstrated that his unimpressive T20I record does not accurately represent his abilities.

Rohit Sharma chose to bat first, and Rishabh Pant blasted 53 runs off 32 deliveries as India set a total of 183 runs for Bangladesh. After that, the Men in Blue shut out the Bangla Tigers at 122/9 to secure a commanding 60-run victory.

Pant’s impressive performance (53 off 32 balls, including 4 fours and 4 sixes) and Hardik’s valuable contribution with both bat and ball (40 not out off 23 balls, with 2 fours and 4 sixes) propelled India to a solid 182 for five after choosing to bat first.

Manjrekar, who was watching the match on Star Sports, complimented Pant for his rapid assessment of the situation and concise demonstration of his genuine ability.

“The pitch was slightly difficult when he came to bat. We saw Sanju Samson getting out after scoring only one run off six balls. After that, he (Pant) came and his specialty is that he is extremely street-smart and assesses very quickly what needs to be done,” he said.

“He is a batter who scored runs at a strike rate of almost 200 on a difficult pitch. This is Rishabh Pant’s specialty. His record in T20Is is very ordinary, an average close to 20 and a strike rate of 120 or lower, but we saw today what this guy can do,” the former India batter added.

In 66 Twenty20 Internationals, Pant has amassed 987 runs at an average of 22.43 and a strike rate of 126.37. In 56 innings, Rishabh Pant has only managed three half-centuries, with his best effort being an undefeated 65.

Rishabh Pant received praise from Sanjay Bangar for putting in the work before taking the big shots. In Saturday’s match, the southpaw was at ease against both pace and spin, according to the former all-rounder for India.

“Everyone will talk about the four fours and four sixes he hit but he scored only one run off his first six or seven deliveries. So the best thing was that he gave himself time, especially against the spinners. We have the notion that he plays a lot of shots against spinners,” he said

“Actually, his best shots are against the pacers and he gets out many times against spinners. Today he batted well against both pacers and spinners. So I feel a stability has come into his mind considering the way he batted,” Bangar observed

After Sanju Samson was out of the game in the second over, Pant came out to bat and made just one run off his first six deliveries. After that, he picked up speed before retiring with a boundary when he turned fifty.
