ENG vs IND: Sanjay Manjrekar Compares Batting Styles Of Rishabh Pant & KL Rahul

Former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar recommends one of the senior-most India Test team batsmen KL Rahul, to examine his inconsistent batting form before the 2nd Test against England on 2nd July at Birmingham. According to Manjrekar, Rahul is among the established batsmen in the current test team, and he can enhance his batting ability.

Sanjay Manjrekar’s take on KL Rahul

The former Indian cricketer and present-day commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has watched keenly the performance of the young Indian against England in the first Test at Leeds. In his view, KL Rahul, for being long long-serving cricketer in Test may help to win the Test against England. Rahul needs to do a job by pressuring himself on his batting. Rahul scored merely 42 runs from 78 in the first innings, while in the second innings, Rahul scored 137 runs.

In his career in tests, KL Rahul has appeared nearly 59 times and scored 3436 runs at a total of 34.70. Conversely, he has also played 72 T20S. The right-handed batter is one of the veteran batsmen to have played under pressure.

When Manjrekar was discussing KL Rahul’s erratic performance, he complimented Rishabh Pant for his brilliant performance in the first Test against England, which was led by Ben Stokes.

Sanjay Manjrekar lauds Rishabh Pant’s batting

While appreciating Pant for his wonderful performance, he also compared Rahul’s performance with Pant’s. Rishabh Pant, the second wicketkeeper in Test cricket to make centuries in both innings against England, has been stated to be an ‘exceptional player’ due to his joyous batting and scoring. Sanjay Manjrekar quoted that,

“I think he will because it seems like he enjoys batting in Test cricket. Any batter who gets two hundreds in a Test match, it takes a lot out of you mentally, not so much physically, getting a hundred in the first innings, and 48 hours later, you have the same kind of reserve to get another hundred. So that is a hallmark of an exceptional player,”

He also urged that Indian cricket needs K L Rahul to take the responsibility to perform more firmly. KL Rahul needs to improve his batting to earn more runs. On the topic, he stated that,

“Rishabh Pant enjoys Test matches. He has not got enough runs. So he is hungry. I see Pant carrying his form, but there is another senior batter in the team who now has no choice but to carry his form right through the series. Indian cricket needs him badly, and KL Rahul cannot be a one-hundred wonder or a one-Test-match performer.”

Subhman Gill led India will be playing the second Test against England on July 2 at Birmingham at 3.30 pm.
