Shamar Joseph, a young West Indian bowler, claimed his Test debut against Australia in Adelaide on Wednesday was “much better” than his previous employment as a security guard. Batting at number 11, he grabbed two wickets that day: Steve Smith with his opening ball and Marnus Labuschagne shortly after.  Shamar Joseph finished with a score of 36 (41).

With only five first-class matches under his belt, Shamar Joseph, the father of one, had not played recognized cricket until two years before being here. He left his day job as a security guard last year to devote more time to cricket. Now that he has begun to play international cricket, he is simply savoring the chance.

His team went from 133/9 to 188 in the first inning due to his 36-run batting effort, which featured three fours and a six. Shamar claimed he had “no fear” and didn’t feel anxious either before or after the Australian pacers pummeled his body.

This is what I want to continue doing for the rest of my life- Shamar Joseph

Shamar Joseph said on ABC Sport that :

“It sounds way better than being a security guard, it’s not easy work. Working 12 hours, seven-to-seven. I mean cricket isn’t easy also but this is what I love, this is what I want to continue doing for the rest of my life. I wouldn’t do it until I am 50. But what would I do for my career, it to enjoy cricket while it lasts.”

I think that’s the best start to my career- Shamar Joseph on Steve Smith’s wicket

Smith is Shamar’s favorite batter, and he said that getting great bats like Labuschagne and him out there is exactly the perfect way to begin a career. Having taken his maiden wicket in an international match, Shamar was delighted as he sprinted till he nearly reached sweeper cover off a magnificent away-nipping-length ball.

He stated that the celebration was simply the joy of the occasion. He also expressed his gratitude to the Adelaide audience for applauding him as he claimed his first international wicket.

“It’s amazing. He’s one of my favorite batsmen. Steve Smith is my favorite batsman. To get him out first wicket, that’s amazing for me. I think that’s the best start to my career and I want to continue doing well,” Shamar said.
