In the wake of India’s significant loss against Australia at the Oval Ground, London in the ICC WTC Final, Rohit Sharma questioned the decision to conduct the WTC final in England every time. Rohit Sharma discussed the problem that rather than a one-off test it should be a three-test match series, followed by the month to conduct WTC, it should not always be played in June.

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt stated that Rohit Sharma is complaining because India is on the losing.  He also showed the utmost respect to Virat Kohli and his captaincy, Salman Butt believes that the Indian team went downhill since Kohli’s captaincy had been relinquished.

“If The WTC Finals Was India’s Priority, They Should Have Finished The IPL Before 20 Days..” – Salman Butt

Salman Butt opined that if WTC was so pivotal for India, they should have allocated additional time for preparations, and truncated the IPL. He said on his YouTube channel:

“Rohit Sharma asked why the final of the World Test Championship takes place in June. He also stated that it should be moved out of England. These are the debates that happen once you don’t get favorable results.” said Salman Butt.

“Instead, we should talk about priorities. If the WTC final was India’s priority, they should have finished the IPL before 20 days. They should have sent their squad to England 15 days before the final to play a couple of matches against county teams.” he stated.

“India have an impressive away record in Tests. However, it has all been downhill since Virat Kohli stepped down as captain. Things haven’t been stable since then. They would have won in India anyway, even without having a captain. One can assess captaincy only when the team tours abroad.” he added.

Virat Kohli Was A Better Captain Than Rohit Sharma?

Nonetheless, it is challenging to compare two talismanic batter, as their unwavering resilience and devotion towards the game has facilitated India to reach unprecedented heights and numerous ICC tournament finals.

Rohit Sharma has been a successful captain so far he has achieved the feat by winning his 31st T20 of the skipper of the team in his 37th outing, the match that held against Hong Kong. Kohli has achieved 30 wins from his 50 matches as the India captain. The man leading the list at the moment is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has helped India win 41 T20I matches under his captaincy from 72 matches.

However, Kohli and Sharma both failed to secure a win in ICC WTC finals, the last ICC Title India won was under MS Dhoni in 2013. Though, they were unaccomplished to win a title for India, they have made multiple final appearances in ICC tournaments which is a testament to their success and hard work.
