Cricket Australia (CA) would be keen to make the most of the winning run. The Pat Cummins-led side won the ICC WTC 2021-23 final against all expectations. The peculiarity of Pat Cummins‘ side is that they have got ‘n’ match winners present in the side which puts no extra pressure on the likes of Smith & Warner.

The eclectic right-handed batter Marnus Labuschagne would be dejected to miss out on the squad. The batter needs to get big scores in the upcoming South African 5-match ODI series to stake a claim as there are still chances that he may make it to the squad.

Australia were the semi-finalists in the 2019 ODI WC as the sudden injuries to Usman Khawaja & Shaun Marsh disturbed the team’s dynamics. Aussies would be keen to make the most of the 3 ODIs against India when the Pat Cummins led side would travel to India and play a series commencing from 22nd September.

There are eight one-day matches still to play  South Africa & India- George Bailey

George Bailey was having an interaction with the ICC and said that the side is looking quite well and was quite thrilled with the return of Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc & Glenn Maxwell. George Bailey hinted that there might be a change in the main squad for ODI WC 2023 as there  8 matches along with 2 World Cup practice matches.

“Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell are on track in their return to play programs. All are well placed to come back online in the coming weeks and potentially for selection in the upcoming series against India,” said George Bailey.

“There are eight one-day matches still to play in South Africa and India before the final squad is due to be declared. They are followed by two World Cup practice games, which offers plenty of opportunity to continue the build for the tournament,” he added.
