Australian cricket team would be crestfallen after their performance against Proteas in ODI WC 2023. The Aussies registered their highest defeats in the amount of runs 134 runs. Marnus Labuschagne was the only batter who looked in good touch. Marnus Labuschagne scored 46 runs in 74 balls and struck 3 fours.
Australia needs to go back to the drawing board as this is the most strongest Australian side ever in the last couple of sides. The management needs to have some serious conversations with Glenn Maxwell & Marcus Stoinis who couldn’t perform in crunch match.
We have to make sure that we come back stronger for the next fixture- Marnus Labuschagne
Marnus Labuschagne was having an interaction with the media post the match against South Africa. Marnus Labuschagne pointed out that the side needs to quickly regroup after two staggering defeats against India and the mighty Proteas in ODI WC 2023.
“I’d consider us one of the top sides and it’s disappointing that we haven’t competed in the last two games. But we’ve got to make sure we’re learning from these scenarios… We’ve got to get better and we’ve got to make sure that we come back stronger for the next fixture,” said Marnus Labuschagne.
Wake up call for Australia
Australia now are placed at 9th position on the points table with 2 defeats from 2 matches and a NRR of -1.84. The side badly needs the senior duo of Steve Smith & David Warner to play according to their credentials as slowly Aussies are entering into do or die scenarios.
Skipper Pat Cummins should stick to one combination rather than making whole sale changes as a couple of more losses can put Australia’s ODI campaign in jeopardy. It would be interesting to see whether Glenn Maxwell plays the role of 2nd spinner for the side who did a good job against Proteas as he took 2 scalps and gave away 34 runs in his 10 overs spell.
