ICC Champions Trophy 2025: “They May Not Need Me” – David Warner On Playing 2025 Champions Trophy For Australia

Veteran Australian opener David Warner expressed that the Australian team may not require his assistance following the 2025 Championship Trophy. Even though the latter had announced that he would be pulling back from the long format of the game, he still hints at the possibility of his return should the Men in Yellow need an opener.

David Warner’s huge statement on ICC Champions Trophy 2025

David Warner opted that the Yellow squad would be doing just fine without the latter since Travis Head grasped the gist of batting in the top order and the convincing emergence of the sensation Jake Fraser-McGurk.

“They may not need me,” Warner mentioned about Australia’s 2025 Champions Trophy Campaign to the Sydney Morning Herald.

If that holds, then the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be his last international career. Despite arriving giddy to the warm-up match prior to the T20 World Cup, the southpaw thrashed a fast-fifty against Namibia and a cameo opposing West Indies in the final practice match.

Warner stated that Australia will continue to play aggressively in the T20 World Cup, given they have been put along with Oman, England, Namibia, and Scotland in Group B.

“We’ve always played fearless and I think that’s why we’ve been so successful over the last few years. We don’t care about our spot in a team, we just care about doing the best that we can, and making sure that whatever we’re doing, we’re trying to be that match winner,” Warner mentioned.

“And the fortunate thing is that we’ve got so many of them. One might come off one day, the next day someone else will come off. So we just know that one person in that top six, if they can get anywhere between 60 to 80 runs at a good strike rate, we know we’re always going to post a good total,” he further added.

As of yet, the Yellow squad is incomplete as some of their players have been engaged in the recently concluded IPL 2024 on May 26.

“No chance” – David Warner reflects on IPL’s high-scoring trend being replicated in the Caribbean

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has produced huge score marks like never before. The aggressive batting style of the players has led to the 200-run milestone like a regular thing happening every now and then.

However, David Warner assured that the 200-run mark would be highly unlikely to be achieved in the Caribbean at the T20 World Cup.

“You’re playing eight or nine batters, and then you’re bowling seven, eight bowlers, and the wickets were extremely flat,” Warner mentioned about the IPL 2024.

Australia will be starting their journey at the ICC T20 World Cup by having their first match against Oman at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 6.
