The legendary all-rounder from South Africa, Jacques Kallis, shared his thoughts on Friday over the return of top players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the Indian T20I team more than a year before the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June. He stated that although experience counts, game plans are what ultimately determine which players make a team.

In the current three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, Virat and Rohit have at last returned to the format. After losing badly to England by ten wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 semifinals in Australia, it is their first time playing in a short format.

Virat will play the next two matches after missing the first one in Mohali for personal reasons. Rohit played the first game, in which he was run out for a duck.

It depends on what your game plans are- Jacques Kallis on the T20I comebacks of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

Speaking with ANI, Jacques Kallis shared his thoughts on Rohit and Kohli’s T20I comeback at the World Cup.

“I think there has to be a balance between the two. It depends on how you want to go in the tournament and what your game plans are. Experience has a big role for sure,” he stated.

Jacques Kallis called the just-ended multi-format India-South Africa series a fantastic one that featured two outstanding teams playing at their peak. He did, however, voice his displeasure with the pitch used in Cape Town for the second Test.

The Newlands surface produced the shortest Test in history, lasting just 642 balls, and was rated as “unsatisfactory” by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“It is sad that it went that way. You want two quality sides to playing on a good surface. A little disappointing but both sides had to play on that surface and India outplayed SA on a tough surface,” he said.

It is good that the game is growing and every time we go to new countries- Jacques Kallis on the USA hosting the T20 World Cup

The United States and the West Indies will host the 2024 T20 World Cup. The fact that a few of the ICC event’s matches will take place in the US pleases Jacques Kallis. Speaking of the same subject, he stated:

“It is good that the game is growing and every time we go to new countries. Hopefully, America catches up with the game.”

He told ANI that when it comes to players staking claims for a spot in the national T20I team for the World Cup, SA20 is a solid platform.

“It (T20 World Cup) is a big tournament for a lot of guys. They are putting their hands up and getting their spots on the SA side, as well as learning from other international players,” he added.

From June 1 to June 29, 2024’s T20 World Cup will take place in the US and the West Indies.
