AUS vs IND : Glenn McGrath Lavishes Praise On Prasidh Krishna

Not picked for the IND vs WI 2nd Test, Prasidh Krishna has turned his attention to white ball cricket. The Karnataka pacer began his preparation for the IND vs AUS ODIs during the lunch break at Delhi. With bowling coach Morne Morkel for company, Prasidh Krishna worked on his lines and lengths on a hot afternoon at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

With less than a week to go for the India vs Australia series,  Krishna used his downtime to prepare.  Krishna was picked for the WI series but did not get a game with Shubman Gill opting for an unchanged XI. With Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah playing the second Test, chances of Prasidh Krishna playing the 1st ODI on 18th are high.

In turn,  Krishna has already stepped into white ball mode.  Krishna has worked with Morne Morkel on the sidelines on all 4 days of the IND vs WI 2nd Test. On Monday, the Karnataka pacer worked on hitting the hard lengths with Morkel closely inspecting his landing and pitching. The idea was to hit the 6m mark on the wicket consistently. He later switched to yorker practice. Prasidh will be trusted to bowl in the death, and a yorker is a potent weapon in his arsenal.

Krishna has a has stop start ODI career due to injuries and loss of form. Since making his debut in 2021, the 30-year-old has played only 17 ODIs, picking up 29 wickets. With Mohammed Shami now not in plans,  Krishna has a chance to stake a permanent spot in the playing XI.

Following his recent success in  the red ball format, Prasidh Krishna would be be happy to replicate it in the white ball tour vs Australia. Seeing his progress, Former Australian great Glenn Mcgrath has reserved a massive praise for tall, lanky fast bowler in form of Prasidh Krishna.

Prasidh Krishna is an enforcer- Glenn McGrath

Pace great Glenn McGrath heaped praise on young India pacer Prasidh Krishna and backed him to have a successful white-ball tour of Australia. The Indian paceman recently impressed many with his performance in the Oval Test against England, where he partnered with Mohammed Siraj to produce a sensational comeback for the visitors. The right-arm pacer Prasidh Krishna has now got a call-back in the ODI squad for the Australia series, where he will partner with Siraj once again on the bouncy tracks down under.

McGrath applauded Prasidh Krishna’s progress, noting how the Indian pacer has evolved into a more complete bowler. Having previously coached him, the Aussie legend praised Prasidh Krishna’s impressive IPL performances and described him as a natural “enforcer” who can excel consistently once he nails his ideal length.

“Prasidh Krishna, who I’ve done a bit of work with over in India, coaching over there a while back now. I think he’s really come to age, the way he bowled in the IPL recently was brilliant. He’s quite an enforcer. He just needs to get that length right, and I think he’ll do really well,” McGrath said on the Fast Bowling Cartel YouTube channel.

Prasidh Krishna also participated in the last Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in which India suffered a 1-3 series defeat. However, he played only one Test—the final one at Sydney, where he picked up six wickets across two innings. Glenn McGrath suggested that India missed the trick by including him late in the Playing XI during the five-match series.

“We saw him in the last Test series (in Australia), I felt they should’ve played him a bit more,” McGrath added.

Meanwhile, despite winning the IPL Purple Cap last season, he is yet to get an opportunity in T20Is this year; however, he is expected to get a chance to play in the ODIs, especially on the bouncy Perth track. India is touring Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is. The series will commence with the 50-Over fixtures on Sunday, and the second and third ODIs will be played on October 23 and 25. The five T20Is will be played from October 29 to November 8.

India have long looked at Prasidh Krishna as a hit the deck bowler who could be vital to their pace attack. His abilities could work well in conditions in Australia where the wickets offer pace and bounce. With the World Cup in South Africa where similar wickets are expected, Prasidh Krishna could well turn out to be a key component of the Indian team.
