As whole world is busy celebrating India’s victory of winning T20 World Cup but on the other side Shubman Gill’s led side has reached Zimbabwe for 5 T20IS. It will commence from 6th July. This time squad is filled with youngsters and many of them have recieved their maiden call-ups.
When squad was announced it was great to see faces like Abhishek Sharma, Tushar Deshpande, etc. VVS Laxman will be the head coach of this team.
Saba Karim express his feeling about Shreyas and Ishan
A young squad which headed to Zimbabwe for 5 T20is is led by Shubman Gill. Some fresh faces will get to see and with this a new era will begin of Indian cricket in T20Is. When squad was announced it was seen that selectors have excluded Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer.
Last few months were not good for both of them as Ishan Kishan took exit from test squad of South Africa due to mental break but later he played DY Patil T20 match and then joined Mumbai Indians for IPL though he didn’t had a good season with bat and so his name was not included in contract too. It was going parallel with Shreyas Iyer also he was injured during England tour of India during test series then he was no where seen in cricket then his name was also excluded from the annual contract of BCCI, then his presence seen directly in IPL and won the title for KKR for third time. So in between former Indian cricketer Saba Karim speaks on exclusion of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. While speaking on this he also expressed about some other things too:
“Personally, I’d love to see Abhishek open with either Shubman or Ruturaj, Shubman can come to bat at one down as well. I’m not sure at this stage when Sanju Samson will join the side, he may join later. Till then, I’d love to see this combination and when Yashasvi Jaiswal and Samson are there then you imagine they will take the opening slot and number 3 position respectively.”
Further Saba Karim added about Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan:
“They will get many oopurtunities because if you look at the size of the team that has gone to Zimbabwe in the past several years, I remember even during our term, this is actually not a second string side. What the Indian selectors look at is to give oppurtunities to youngsters who have yet to play international cricket, and they try and balance it with some cricketers.”
“I think what the selectors have done this time around, so Ishan’s name and Shreyas not being there doesn’t mena they will not get oppurtunities going forward. There are a number of bilateral engagements coming up in white ball cricket and I’m sure both these cricketers, we will see more of them in some of the upcoming series.”
Is this the end of Ishan and Shreyas career or will be backed in next series onwards ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
