India finished the first day of the fifth Test at Dharamsala at 135/1 after Yashasvi Jaiswal hit 57 runs off 58 deliveries, replying to England’s 218 total from the first innings. With 712 runs in a Test series, Yashasvi  Jaiswal’s total is the third-highest of any Indian hitter. You saw the hunger for runs in Yashasvi Jaiswal- Zaheer Khan

Zaheer Khan said during a conversation on Colors Cineplex that Jaiswal surpassing the 700-run mark is a significant achievement.

“You saw the hunger for runs in him, which is a very good thing. Even the greatest of batters have very few series like this and Yashasvi Jaiswal has achieved it so early in his career. So I feel it is a huge thing,” Zaheer said.

The former cricket player turned commentator continued, saying that India will benefit greatly from the young player’s development into a skilled opener.

“The expectations from him will now be at this level only because he has shown an approach like that. We saw all the things that make a batter great. It is very good for Indian cricket as well if a top-order batter possesses abilities like this. So the future is looking very bright,” Zaheer Khan added.

We got to see excellent batting from both of them – Zaheer Khan praises Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma’s partnership

In his analysis of Thursday’s match, Zaheer Khan credited Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal for giving India a strong start.

“We got to see excellent batting from both of them. Rohit was looking in a different rhythm and kept batting in that same flow. Yashasvi, at the other end, looked quiet at the start but as soon as spin came, you also got to see three sixes,” he said.

The former bowler for India was appreciative to Jaiswal for beginning his innings cautiously.

“It was good to see that he started like this when he was in good form. It shows his mentality is not to keep playing shots because he is in good form. Instead, his mentality is that he is going through a good time, so he shouldn’t lose his wicket by being in a hurry,” Zaheer Khan added.

Jaiswal faced 27 deliveries in all and managed just six runs. After hitting three sixes off four balls in his opening over to welcome Shoaib Bashir into the attack, he was eventually bowled out by the off-spinner while trying to hit another massive shot.
