During WPL 2025 Mumbai Indians pursued victory by four-wickets against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Winning the Toss continued to work well when MI selected to field first to limit RCB batting at 167 for 7 even though Ellyse Perry hit a masterful inning. The Mumbai Indian batting order started quickly before Harmanpreet Kaur made a steady fifty and Amanjot Kaur secured victory with her batting performance.
RCB’s Innings: Perry’s Masterclass Amidst Quick Wickets
The match started aggressively when Shabnim Ismail opened with a quick delivery to put pressure on Smriti Mandhana initially. Mandhana hit several boundaries before she missed a short delivery from Ismail during her attempt at an attacking shot. The quick elimination of Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Raghvi Bist, and Kanika Ahuja left RCB with only four wickets remaining during the ninth over when their total reached 62.

Ellyse Perry maintained the innings by playing elegant strokes against the opposition. Her batting performance received brief support from Richa Ghosh who brought stability to the innings. Perry delivered several strong hits that enabled RCB to recover their stride and get her to her fifty in 30 balls. Her leadership carried the team through the innings until Amanjot ended her batting run in the last over of the match.
Mumbai Indians’ Bowling Effort: Restricting the Flow
The MI bowlers conducted a clinical performance which delivered crucial wicket-taking opportunities. Ismail set a swift pace at the beginning of the innings before Amanjot Kaur delivered important boundaries to stop RCB from surpassing 170 runs.

MI’s Chase: Flying Start and Harmanpreet Kaur’s Steady Hand
Yastika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt scored 66 runs before the second wicket fell. The dangerous Sciver-Brunt displayed threatening form with her boundary hitting abilities before raising her bat for a brisk 42. Georgia Wareham executed a double knock in back-to-back deliveries against Harmanpreet Kaur and Sajana thus giving RCB a temporary advantage in the game.

The crucial time came when 22 runs were needed from the final two overs followed by Amanjot Kaur taking charge of the match. Kanika Ahuja suffered two consecutive sixes from Amanjot Kaur which brought the score to a single run from the rest of the match. G Kamalini secured the victory for MI by striking a firm shot through covers during the final over when she was 16 years old.
RCB’s Bowling: Wareham’s Late Strikes Not Enough
Wareham’s breakthroughs in the 14th and 16th overs did not allow RCB to keep constant pressure on MI. Garth and Singh started RCB’s attack well but lost control when Mumbai Indians continued their aggressive offensive during the middle batting period.

Mumbai Indians achieved their run chase with precision through the combination of Harmanpreet’s veteran expertise and Amanjot’s expert finishing abilities. Under pressure situations the RCB bowling unit did not manage to defend the total that Perry made competitive through her brilliance. During WPL 2025 each match will reward the chasing team so captains now face a difficult decision between batting first or chasing in upcoming matches.
