Cricket experts and former players are displaying their top team to lift the World Cup in 2023. Most are going with Australia and India, but former Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar picked England as the top team to retain their title.

In the last mega event, England was the favorite to win the tournament, and they matched expectations. They were playing in home conditions, but this time conditions are different, and nobody is considering the champions as the first team to win the World Cup 2023. On that note, Sunil Gavaskar feels they are the best team.

England are the top team- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar was having an interaction with Star Sports. Sunil Gavaskar pointed out that England has got everything to retain the Title. Sunil Gavaskar stated that the Britishers have got a very dangerous batting order and have two to three world class all-rounders which can change the match with both bat & bowl.

“The defending champions, England, are the top team because of the kind of talent that they have at the top of the very dangerous batting order. They have two or three world-class all-rounders who can change the match with both bat and ball. They have also got a very good bowling attack and an experienced bowling line-up, so at the moment in my book, certainly,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

England a threatening unit

In the last World Cup 2019, England performed really well and won the championship under the captaincy of Eoin Morgan. This time, England will start their campaign on October 5 in the opening match of the tournament against New Zealand.

This time England is coming with more talent on their side; some young players like Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone make the defending champions such a threat for other teams in the mega event. They have all the required things: gun batters, top allrounders, and a decent fast bowling attack. They have left out the start opener Jason Roy and bowler Jofra Archer (*Archer as a travelling reserve); both players played crucial roles in helping the team win the first title for England.

Ben Stokes, who reversed his retirement just before the 2023 World Cup, makes England’s power double because of what he brings to the team. He was the main man for England in the last successive campaign. England will be hoping that he will again show his class on the big stage of cricket.
