WI vs PAK: Jayden Seales’ 6-Wicket Haul Humiliates Pakistan

Jayden Seales bowled like a man on a mission as his 6-wicket haul decimates Pakistan as West Indies thrashed Pakistan by 202 runs to seal the ODI series 2-1. Jayden Seales‘ 6/18 humiliated Pakistan as the tourists were shot out for 92 their lowest score against West Indies to lose the game by 202 runs.

Batting first, West Indies rode on a magnificent ton from captain Shai Hope as his unbeaten 120 alongside Justin Greaves’ 43* off 24 balls and Roston Chase’s 36 off 29 balls took West Indies to an above-par score of 294/6. Abrar Ahmed bowled well for his 2/34 while Naseem Shah playing this game in place of Shaheen Afridi picked up 2/72 in 10 overs as he went for a few.

In reply, Jayden Seales bamboozled the Pakistan batting as his 6/18 alongside Gudakesh Motie’s 2/37 and Roston Chase’s one wicket meant Pakistan were bowled out for 92 in 29.2 overs. Amidst the sorry looking scorecard, Salman Ali Agha made 30 while Mohammad Nawaz was unbeaten on 23. Hasan Nawaz scored 13 and got to double figures.

Shai Hope’s Unbeaten 120 Powers West Indies To 294/6

Put into bat first, Brandon King and Evin Lewis came out to bat for the West Indies while Naseem Shah had the new ball in hand for Pakistan. King got a streaky boundary away off Shah to get off the mark. Hasan Ali shared the new ball from the other end as Lewis cut him away for a boundary. Naseem provided the breakthrough for Pakistan as King departed for 5 off 8 balls with a boundary to his name.

Naseem bowled a good length delivery in the channel outside off getting it to zip away a bit with the ball bouncing a bit more than expected after pitching. King is half forward as he pushes at the ball and played tentatively to get hit on the shoulder of the bat. The ball flew to the left of widish slip and Salman Ali Agha took a good catch tumbling around. Keacy Carty came to bat at 3 and got off the mark. Lewis soon survived a run out chance as Pakistan missed the direct hit at the striker’s end.

Runs came in singles as West Indies looked to rebuild the innings. Lewis survived a LBW scare as well with Pakistan burning a review. Carty finally got a boundary away as he hit Naseem for a boundary. Lewis again survived a LBW call with the impact outside off-stump. Lewis broke the shackles as he hit Naseem into the stands for the maximum. At the end of the first powerplay, West Indies were 36/1 in 10 overs.

Hussain Talat came into the attack post the powerplay and a caught behind appeal against Lewis was turned down as Pakistan burnt both their reviews. Abrar Ahmed was introduced into the attack. He started his spell with a tidy over. Lewis broke the shackles as he hit Talat for a maximum as the 50 came up in 12.3 overs. Lewis hit another maximum off Talat in the same over. Soon, Abrar provided the breakthrough as he got rid of Evin Lewis for 37 off 54 balls with a boundary and 3 sixes to his name.

Abrar bowled full and tossed up outside off, Lewis got down on one knee and looked to slog it across the line. He didn’t get the timing right and it went high in the air towards deep midwicket. Mohamad Haris the substitute fielder settled underneath it to take a fine catch close to the boundary cushions. Shai Hope the captain came out to bat next. Talat bowled a tight over and so was Abrar as West Indies had to rebuild again. Runs were coming in singles as boundaries had dried up.

Saim Ayub came into the attack now and bowled a decent over. Abrar gave Pakistan its third wicket as Carty fell for 17 off 45 balls with a boundary to his name. Abrar from over the wicket tossed it up on off-stump which is too full for sweeping. Carty shuffled across and got down on a knee attempting a risky sweep. He missed the ball on the under edge as the ball dipped under to hit the front pad. The umpire gave it OUT. Carty reviewed in hope and saw Three Reds burning a review in the process. Sherfane Rutherford came out to bat next. He got off the mark soon.

Rutherford got going with his first boundary off Ayub. Abrar kept things tight and Ayub was bowling decently as well. Hope finally broke the shackles as he hit Ayub for a welcome boundary as West Indies reached 88/3 in 25 overs. Mohammad Nawaz was introduced into the attack. He kept things tight even as Hope got a streaky boundary away past the slip cordon. The 100 came up for West Indies in 26.4 overs courtesy a boundary from Shai Hope off Ayub. Runs came in ones and twos for the next few overs as West Indies reached 110/3 in 30 overs.

Ayub got another breakthrough for Pakistan as he got rid of Rutherford for 15 off 40 balls with a boundary to his name. Ayub from around the wicket bowled it slightly short on the stumps, Rutherford tried to break free as he rocked back to pull it over midwicket. He miscued the stroke with the ball going high in the air and to the left of long-off. Hussain Talat moved around in the deep and took a simple catch. Roston Chase came out to the middle and got off the mark as well.

Nawaz bowled a tidy over before Hope hit Ayub’s poor ball over midwicket for the maximum. Chase managed to get a boundary away off Nawaz. Hope also got a streaky boundary away off Nawaz in the same over. Hasan Ali came back and bowled a tidy over while Hope with a triple got to his fifty in 54 balls. Chase then reverse swept Nawaz for a boundary. Chase then launched Hasan Ali for the maximum over the bowler’s head. He was in the zone now as he hit Nawaz for a maximum as well over long-on.

Soon, the 50-run stand came up between the two players. Chase was not done yet as he hit Naseem Shah for a boundary over midwicket. Abrar bowled another quiet over as West Indies reached 175/4 in 40 overs. Naseem Shah broke the partnership getting rid of Chase for 36 off 29 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes to his name. Naseem bowled it full and right at the base of off-stump, Chase tried to dig it out but was beaten by the pace. It brushed his boot and went onto hit the off-stump. Gudakesh Motie came out to bat next and got off the mark.

Motie managed to get a boundary away off Nawaz over extra cover but Nawaz hit back getting rid of Motie for 5 off 7 balls with a boundary to his name. Nawaz bowled it full and tossed up outside off, Motie got down on one knee for the slog sweep and ended up slicing it straight up in the air. Mohammad Nawaz called for it and settled underneath it to take the catch on his follow-through. Justin Greaves came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.

Hope hit Naseem for a boundary which was also a no ball and the free hit yielded only a single. Hope then changed gears as he launched Nawaz for the maximum as the 200 came up in 43.1 overs for West Indies. He was not done yet as he launched another maximum off Nawaz over long-on. Hope then hit Abrar for a maximum over wide long-on. Hope then hit Abrar in the same over for a boundary and a maximum to move to 97*.

Greaves joined in the fun as he hit Hasan Ali for a boundary through short third man. Soon, Shai Hope got to his 18th ODI hundred in 83 balls as he hit Naseem for another boundary through the cover region. Hasan Ali gifted 5 wides to West Indies as bowling was becoming wayward now while Greaves launched him for the maximum over wide long-on as the 250 came up for the hosts. He hit a streaky boundary off Hasan Ali to end the 48th over which yielded 18 runs.

Hope then took on Naseem and hit him for consecutive boundaries before going off strike. Greaves joined in the fun as he smashed Naseem for the maximum followed by a boundary and then a brace as 21 runs came off this over. Greaves then hit a boundary off Hasan Ali as the 100-run stand came up between the duo off 47 balls. Hope finished things off in style as he hit a boundary off Hasan Ali to finish the innings at 294/6 in 50 overs. Hope’s innings comprised off 10 fours and 5 sixes while Greaves’ innings of 43* off 24 balls consisted of 4 fours and 2 sixes. 16 extras given by the fielding side.

Abrar Ahmed was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan with figures of 2/34 in 9 overs. Naseem Shah got a couple of wickets but went for 72 runs in 10 overs. Saim Ayub finished with 1/36 in 8 overs while Mohammad Nawaz finished with 1/60 in 9 overs. Hasan Ali went for 60 runs in 10 overs for 0 wickets while Hussain Talat bowled 4 overs for 26 runs and did not get a wicket. This meant Pakistan needed a mammoth 295 to win the match and the series.

Chasing this massive score of 295, Pakistan openers Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique came out to bat while Jayden Seales had ball in hand for the West Indies. Seales got the perfect start for the hosts as he dismissed Saim Ayub for a bronze duck and got him third time in the series as well. Seales bowled it full and outside off-stump swinging further away from the southpaw, Ayub tried to reach for it bending his back knee and went for an expansive drive on seeing the width. He managed to get the outside edge which goes to Hope who does the rest. Babar Azam came out to bat next.

Romario Shepherd was given the ball from the other end. Shepherd conceded 4 byes as bonus for Pakistan. Seales struck again getting rid of the other opener Abdullah Shafique for 8-ball duck. Seales bowled a hard length on the off-stump, Shafique tried to break the shackles and stepped down the track trying to loft it over the non-striker’s head but wasn’t there for the stroke. He got hit on the toe end of the blade and the ball looped to mid-on where Motie took a good overhead catch. Mohammad Rizwan came out to bat and was gone first ball.

Seales bowled a good length delivery pitching outside the off-stump and jagging back in, Rizwan tried to leave the ball alone on length. The ball came back in to hit the top of off-stump to leave Rizwan clueless. The captain of Pakistan went as Salman Ali Agha faced the hat-trick ball and negotiated it. Shepherd bowled another tidy over while Babar managed to get a boundary away off Seales via a misfield from Motie. Salman got a boundary away off Shepherd. Seales bowled another probing over as Pakistan were clueless with the bat. Shepherd kept things tight from one end.

Seales struck again as he got his 4th getting rid of Babar for 9 off 23 balls with a boundary to his name. Seales bowled a back of a length delivery jagging back into middle and leg stump, Babar played from the crease and slightly fell over while he looked to clip across the line. The ball beats the inside edge and Babar was hit on the front pad. Babar reviewed it but it was more in hope as umpire’s call showed it to be clipping the stumps. Hasan Nawaz came to the crease next.

Pakistan at the end of 10 overs of mandatory powerplay were reeling at 26/4. Shamar Joseph came into the attack and bowled a decent over while Gudakesh Motie was also introduced into the action. Agha got a boundary away off Motie to break the shackles. Joseph was not giving much away while Agha hit another boundary off Motie. Joseph and Motie bowled in tandems as Pakistan looked to rebuild from a terrible start. The 50 came up for the visitors in 16.5 overs. Motie gave away 5 wides to Pakistan as a gift.

Roston Chase was introduced into the attack and he bowled a decent first over as well. Gudakesh Motie then finally got a wicket and broke the budding partnership as Hasan Nawaz fell for 13 off 40 balls. Motie bowled it full and tossed up outside off really slow as well to get a lot of away turn. Hasan Nawaz stepped down and looked to go big down the ground but got beaten on the outside edge. He was so far down that there was no chance to get back in his crease. Hope had ample time to whip off the bails and he did the rest. Hussain Talat came out to bat next.

Talat did not last long as Chase dismissed him for 1 off 4 balls. Chase bowled an arm ball on a length on the stumps coming straight on with the arm, Talat hung back and looked to push it but the ball kept low and beat him on the inside edge. The ball cannoned onto the leg stump as Talat walked back to the hut. Mohammad Nawaz came to the crease next and he got off the mark with a boundary. Salman Ali Agha survived a run out scare as well.

Motie then got his second wicket as he dismissed Salman Ali Agha for 30 off 49 balls with 3 fours to his name. Motie bowled it full on the stumps nicely flighted by the left-arm spinner. Salman strode forward and looked to push it down the ground. He got too close to the pitch of the ball and played early, chipping it off the inner half of the bat straight back at the bowler. Motie took a simple catch to his right in his follow-through and completed the catch. Naseem Shah walked out to bat next.

Chase bowled a decent over while Nawaz launched Motie for the maximum down the ground. Chase kept things tight as Pakistan at the halfway stage of the run chase were 84/7. Seales came back into the attack as Nawaz got a boundary away off him. Runs were hard to come by and Seales got his maiden five-wicket haul as he got rid of Naseem Shah for 6 off 16 balls. Short ball angling into the body, Naseem hopped and tried to fend it away to the leg side but got into a tangle as he took the eyes of the ball. He ended up getting it off the shoulder of the bat and the ball ballooned to the right of the bowler. Seales moved across in his follow-through to complete the catch. Hasan Ali came to the crease next.

Chase bowled a maiden over to Nawaz. Seales then cleaned up Hasan Ali for a bronze duck. Seales bowled a good length delivery pitching outside off-stump angling back into the off-stump. Hasan Ali hopped back and tried to play defensively. He played inside the line and got beaten on the outside edge. The ball goes on to hit the top of the off pole. Seales now had 6 in the match and Pakistan were 9 down. Abrar Ahmed came out to bat at 11.

A run out happened to end proceedings. Abrar hit the good length delivery to backward point and set off for a single. Nawaz sent him back as Roston Chase hit the bulls eye at the striker’s end. Replays showed that Abrar was short of his ground. Nawaz remained unbeaten on 23 off 28 balls with 2 fours and a six to his name. 10 extras given by the fielding side as Pakistan were skittled out for 92 in 29.2 overs.

Jayden Seales was the pick of the bowlers for West Indies with figures of 6/18 in 7.2 overs. Gudakesh Motie finished with 2/37 in 7 overs while Roston Chase chipped in with 1/16 in 6 overs. Shamar Joseph bowled 4 overs for 7 runs while Romario Shepherd bowled 5 overs for 10 runs and were not required to take a wicket. So, West Indies won by 202 runs. Captain Shai Hope was awarded the Player of the Match while Jayden Seales was awarded the Player of the Series Award.

What Lies Ahead

So, West Indies win this series 2-1 and collect crucial points in the standings for automatic qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Pakistan will have a lot to ponder how to go about things in ODIs. West Indies will have a break in International Cricket as their players will be busy in CPL starting on 15th August. Pakistan, on the other hand, will go to UAE to play Tri-series against Afghanistan and UAE ahead of Asia Cup. So, back to T20 mode for Men in Green.

So, a lot to look forward to for both teams going forward albeit in a different format i.e. the shortest format of the game. Lots of cricketing action to look forward to for all of us from across the world.
