Sunil Gavaskar, the renowned Indian opener, has expressed admiration for Dhruv Jurel‘s performance with the bat during his maiden Test series for India against England. Dhruv Jurel‘s standout performance in the fourth Test in Ranchi, where he scored 90 and 39* to earn the Player of the Match award, left a lasting impression.
Sunil Gavaskar also noted Jurel’s impact as a player for the Rajasthan Royals in the previous season. RR would be aiming to perform better this season after finishing at 5th position with 14 points from 14 matches as their main problem is that they don’t make the most of the winning run which spoils all of their hard work.
Sunil Gavaskar’s huge statement on Dhruv Jurel
Speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar explained why he felt Dhruv Jurel had the goods to be promoted in the batting line-up by RR and why he could have a big season.
“Dhruv Jurel can be that person definitely. The way he has batted this year and the way he batted in the IPL last IPL, he can definitely get a promotion up the order,”
Dhruv Jurel scored 152 runs for RR in the IPL 2023 season at a strike rate of 172.73. Sunil Gavaskar also named fast bowler Akash Deep as one to watch out for in IPL 2024, believing that the Royal Challengers Bangalore could give him enough opportunities after an impressive Test debut in Ranchi recently.
It is a weakness in the Mumbai Indians side- Sunil Gavaskar
Sunil Gavaskar believes that Mumbai Indians (MI) have one of the very few weaknesses in their squad, which is their death bowling. While the return of Jasprit Bumrah will be a significant boost, Gavaskar noted that Bumrah may not receive enough support from the other end. He said,
“Death over bowling. Bumrah is there but maybe from the other side runs will be leaked. So this I think is a weakness in the Mumbai Indians side,”
Sunil Gavaskar also acknowledged the fact that Mumbai Indians (MI), with their explosive batting line-up, could consistently post mammoth totals. This ability could cover up for the weakness in the death bowling by providing an extra cushion to the bowlers.
