SL v PAK: Brilliant Imam-Ul-Haq Steers Pakistan To Victory On Day 5

A brilliant Half Century by Imam-Ul-Haq 50(84)* and the double centurion from the first innings Saud Shakeel’s quickfire 30(38) helped Pakistan to secure a win by 4 wickets against Sri Lanka in the First Test at Galle as Pakistan open their account in WTC 2023-25 and lead the series by 1-0. Imam-Ul-Haq displayed immense mental application on a treacherous surface.

IMAM UL HAQ AND BABAR AZAM START POSITIVELY

Day 5 began with Pakistan at 48/3, still requiring 83 runs for victory. It was crucial for the team’s chances that a solid partnership was established to stabilize the innings.  However, the batsmen, Imam Ul Haq and Babar Azam took the challenge in stride and started positively, ensuring that the pressure did not mount on the team.

The duo started their innings with confidence and intent, scoring boundaries at regular intervals. Babar Azam, in particular, looked promising but was unfortunately dismissed on 24 runs, ending a promising partnership.

However, Imam Ul Haq remained resolute and did not let the early setback deter him. Imam Ul Haq showcased his prowess as a batsman, taking the game away from Sri Lanka. He played an aggressive innings, scoring a flurry of boundaries and kept the scoreboard ticking with quick singles and doubles.

His composure and determination were commendable as he reached his 7th half-century in Test cricket, a milestone that turned out to be crucial for the visitors.

PAKISTAN SEALS THE DEAL

As the innings progressed, Imam Ul Haq found an able partner in Saud Shakeel. Saud played a quickfire knock of 30 runs off just 38 deliveries, providing valuable support to Imam at the other end. The duo’s partnership of 43 runs ensured that Pakistan wouldn’t falter in their pursuit of victory.

Moreover, Agha Salman, who had played a significant role with a half-century in the first innings, on his very first delivery, struck a magnificent six to seal the deal for Pakistan.
