Pakistan batting sensation Babar Azam hit out at criticism over his strike-rate, saying that he prefers sticking to his strength rather than resorting to things out of the ordinary. The 29-year-old Babar Azam has faced backlash over the years for not playing enough big shots in the hour of need.

Babar Azam recently became the fastest batter (by innings) to reach the landmark of 10,000 runs in T20 cricket. He broke Universe Boss Chris Gayle’s 7-year-old record. However, it is his strike-rate of 129.40 that raises questions on his credentials as an effective batter in the shorter format.

Babar has been in exceptional form in the ongoing edition of the T20 league. He is currently the leading run-scorer of the tournament, having notched 394 runs from 7 matches at an average of 65.66 and a strike-rate of 152.12 with a hundred and 3 fifties to show for his efforts.

Earlier in the tournament, Babar became the 1st batter to score 3000 runs in the history of the PSL. Last year, Babar stepped down as the Pakistan skipper across formats and also gave up his opening slot in T20Is. Following his heroics in the ongoing PSL season, Babar Azam has openly called upon the critics who criticized him regarding his poor strike rate in the shorter format of the game.

Babar Azam breaks Chris Gayle’s record to become fastest to 10K runs in T20s

Babar Azam has become the fastest batter to score 10K runs in T20 cricket. He achieved the record on Wednesday, February 21, while playing for Peshawar Zalmi in their match against the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Babar broke the record of Chris Gayle, who achieved the feat back in his 285th innings while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 match against the defunct Gujarat Lions in Rajkot. Babar went past Gayle by reaching the milestone in his 271st innings. Virat Kohli and David Warner are 3rd and 4th in the list, having got there in 299 and 303 innings respectively.
