ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 New Zealand finally won their first match of the tournament after getting eliminated from the tournament against Uganda. New Zealand registered their first win after two consecutive losses against West Indies and Afghanistan. After a long time, New Zealand showed their class which helped them to register that win.

Uganda surrendered in batting

New Zealand opted to bowl first and turned out to be a treat for them as Uganda failed to register scores onboard which New Zealand took undue advantage of to dismantle Uganda. None of the batsmen scored runs and so it was a shameful batting performance from Uganda. Uganda scored just 9 runs in the powerplay losing 4 wickets, another shameful thing. The highest run scorer was K Waiswa he scored 11 runs and the team’s total was just 40 runs, earlier they faced the same collapse against West Indies being an inexperienced side can’t blame them but it’s a fact that they need to prepare more in the future.

New Zealand Shines in Bowling

New Zealand took undue advantage of Uganda being an inexperienced side so they wrapped their innings within 40 runs and they couldn’t perform well which was the highlight. Tim Southee bowled an economical spell and it’s now straight into the history books, as the greatest spell ever bowled in t20 World Cup history. Other bowlers also picked wickets and contributed well.

No extra work for New Zealand

As the target was quite simple to chase just 41 runs which wasn’t a tough job New Zealand didn’t waste any time and chased the target within 5.2 overs earlier England had chased the target of 50 runs in 3.1 overs against Oman, so scoring run-chase currently trending which is also a debatable topic for everyone. Devon Conway scored 22 runs while Finn Allen scored 9 runs but lost his wicket and registered their first win. Tim Southee won the Man Of the Match Award for his efficient spell.

Uganda fails in bowling

Just 40 runs were scored onboard so it was just a formality for New Zealand to chase it down they did just three bowlers bowled and the match was concluded nothing big Uganda could achieve just one wicket they were able to get and the match was concluded very early. Uganda would have learned a lesson after a struggling campaign in the World Cup, still, it’s an achievement for the country that they got selected for the World Cup after playing in qualifier matches they had thrashed Zimbabwe and entered this saga of the World Cup.
