After losing the first two matches and the series, West Indies came out all guns blazing as they thumped Nepal by 10 wickets in the third T20I in Sharjah. It will be fair to say that Nepal were not in the game and West Indies had a point to prove to save them from further humiliation. Winning the toss and deciding to bowl first, West Indies skittled Nepal out for 122 in 19.5 overs with Ramon Simmonds leading the way with 4/15 in 3 overs.
The chase of 123 turned out to be a foregone conclusion as the openers Amir Jangoo and Ackeem Auguste stayed unbeaten and took the side home in 12.2 overs as West Indies revived some confidence booster for the visitors as the series ended 2-1 in Nepal’s favour in the end.
Ramon Simmonds’ 4-wicket haul skittles Nepal out for 122 in 19.5 overs.
Put into bat first, Kushal Bhurtel and Kushal Malla came out to bat for Nepal while Kyle Mayers had ball in hand for West Indies. Mayers bowled a decent first over. Captain Akeal Hosein took the ball from the other end. Malla hit Hosein for the first boundary of the game through mid-off. Mayers continued as Bhurtel got into the act and dispatched it over wide long-on for a massive maximum.
Bhurtel then took the attack to Hosein by hitting it over deep forward square leg for the maximum. Jason Holder was introduced into the attack and was greeted by a boundary from Bhurtel as the ball was cut away in front of square. Jediah Blades came to bowl the final over of powerplay. Bhurtel hit him up and over the infield for a boundary. At the end of the 6 overs of powerplay, Nepal were 37/0 and off to a steady start.
Holder continued after the powerplay. Bhurtel was dropped by Allen who went back and couldn’t hold onto the catch. Holder provided the breakthrough for West Indies as he removed Malla for 12 off 21 balls with a boundary to his name. Jason bowled a fuller delivery outside off-stump. Malla threw his bat at it and looked to thump it over covers but got the outside edge that went through to the keeper Jangoo who made no mistake. Rohit Paudel came out to bat next.
Akeal Hosein returned to the bowling crease and delivered another tight over. Karima Gore on debut came into the attack next. He too bowled a decent over. Akeal Hosein came to bowl his final over and was launched by Bhurtel for the maximum as he broke the shackles. Hosein thought he had got Paudel out but he overstepped and the free hit followed which yielded only a single. Akeal in the end had a wicket dismissing Bhurtel for 39 off 29 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes to her name.
Akeal bowled fuller in length angled on the stumps. The batter attempted a reverse sweep and got some gloves on it that deflected off his arms to the first slip fielder. Mayers took the catch. Umpire gave it OUT but the batter was not happy with the call. But he had to go back to the hut. Gulshan Jha came out to bat next. After 10 overs at the halfway stage of the innings, Nepal were 60/2.
Navin Bidaisee came into the attack next. He bowled a miserly over. Gore continued as Paudel slog swept him over deep square leg into the roof for the maximum. Paudel got a reprieve when Akeal dropped a regulation catch at backward point off Gore. Ramon Simmonds came into the attack now. He struck straightaway getting rid of Paudel for 17 off 19 balls with a maximum to his name. He bowled a short of a length delivery on the middle and leg stump as the batter shuffled across to attempt a ramp shot and got some part of the gloves to the wicket-keeper who took an easy catch. Sundeep Jora came out to bat next and got off the mark straightaway.
Jha then clobbered Gore over wide long-off for the maximum. Gulshan Jha was next run out for 10 off 12 balls with a maximum to his name. Big mix-up between the two batters leads to Gulshan being run out. Aasif Sheikh came out to bat next. Sheikh hit Simmonds for a boundary by cutting it behind point. But Simmonds had his man two balls later dismissing Sheikh for 6 off 3 balls with a boundary to his name.
He bowled a short of a length angling across outside off-stump, Shaikh hopped and cut with hard hands and ended up slicing it towards Holder at deep backward point who took it easily. Mohammad Adil Alam came to the crease next and got off the mark as well. After 15 overs, Nepal were now in a spot of bother at 94/5.
Blades continued and bowled a decent over. Holder returned as Jora pummelled him over deep midwicket for the maximum as the 100 came up for Nepal in 16.1 overs. There was another run out in the innings as Ansari was run out for 3 off 5 balls. Bad mix-up between the batters and Ansari was short of his crease. Lokesh Bahadur came out to bat next. Blades got another wicket as he removed Jora for 14 off 15 balls with a maximum to his name.
Blades from over the wicket bowled a short of a length on the stumps, Jora pulled it but is hurried by the pace and mistimed it high in the night sky towards midwicket. Allen ran in and took it safely. Sompal Kami came out to bat next and got off the mark. Bahadur cut Blades to deep third man for a boundary. Simmonds continued as Kami got a triple thanks to Holder’s sloppy work in the field. Simmonds dismissed Kami for 4 off 4 balls.
Simmonds went for the yorker and ended up bowling a full toss on the middle and leg stump line. Kami stayed deep inside the crease and hoicked across the line but missed it on the pads. The umpire gave it out in a flash. Karan KC came out to bat next and was dismissed first ball by Simmonds who had two in the over. He bowled a back of a length angling across on the off and middle stump line. Karan waited for it and looked to run it towards the third man but got the inside edge to drag the ball back onto the stumps. KC got out for a golden duck.
Shahab Alam came out to bat next and survived the hat-trick ball from Simmonds. Blades came to bowl the final over as Bahadur swivelled and pulled it to deep square leg for a boundary. Blades got the final wicket to fall dismissing Bahadur for 9 off 10 balls with 2 boundaries to his name. He bowled a back of a length delivery on the off-stump line. Bahadur shimmied down the track and threw his bat at it but mistimed it high in the night sky. The keeper settled underneath it to take the catch as Nepal were bowled out for 122 in 19.5 overs. Alam remained unbeaten on 0 off 1 ball. 8 extras given by the West Indies bowlers.
Ramon Simmonds was the pick of the bowlers for West Indies with figures of 4/15 in 3 overs. Jediah Blades supported him well with 2/20 in 3 overs. Akeal Hosein chipped in with 1/26 in 4 overs. Jason Holder chipped in with 1/19 in 3 overs. There were two run outs in the innings. Kyle Mayers gave away 13 runs in 3 overs. Karima Gore gave away 23 runs in 3 overs. Navin Bidaisee bowled an over for 5 runs. This meant West Indies needed 123 runs to win the match and avoid the whitewash.
Amir Jangoo & Ackeem Auguste Powers West Indies to a 10-wicket win with plenty of balls to spare.
Chasing 123 for the win, Amir Jangoo and Ackeem Auguste walked out to bat for West Indies while Rohit Paudel had ball in hand for Nepal. Auguste made his intentions clear with the maximum over long-on into the roof. Karan KC took the ball from the other end as Jangoo pulled it away through square leg for a boundary. Auguste then took the attack to Karan hitting him for back-to-back boundaries through fine leg region.
Sompal Kami came into the attack next. Auguste pulled it away to long-on for a boundary. Jangoo hit Paudel for a boundary through square leg via a sweep. Auguste then hit Kami for a boundary by creaming through backward point. Karan KC came back into the attack as Jangoo drove him through extra cover for a boundary. At the end of the first 6 overs of powerplay in the chase, West Indies were 47/0 and flying high.
Mohammad Aadil Alam came into the attack after the powerplay. Auguste was then dropped by Paudel at covers off Alam as the batter got a lifeline. Kushal Bhurtel came into the attack next. He bowled a decent over to start his spell. Jangoo hit Alam for the maximum over long-off for a flat hit. Jangoo was in the groove as he glanced Alam over short fine leg for a boundary. Auguste then launched a maximum over backward square leg.
Shahab Alam came into the attack next as Jangoo hit him for a boundary by creaming through deep cover region. At the end of 10 overs, West Indies were cruising at 80/0 needing a further 43 off 60 balls as they were cruising in the chase as the players took Drinks Break now.
Kushal Bhurtel returned after the Break and Jangoo launched after him for back-to-back sixes to reach his fifty in 38 balls one over deep backward square leg and the other over deep square leg. Jangoo then hit Alam over deep backward square leg for the maximum. The 100 came up for West Indies in 11.1 overs. Alam gifted away 4 leg byes to the batting side before Jangoo launched him over deep midwicket for the maximum.
Jangoo then launched Kami over deep square leg as the ball landed on the roof as the ball went out of the stadium to finish the game as well. Jangoo remained unbeaten on 74 off 45 balls with 5 fours and 6 sixes to his name while Auguste remained unbeaten on 41 off 29 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes to his name. 8 extras given by the fielding side as West Indies were home and dry with 10 wickets and 46 balls to spare.
Nothing to ride home about for Nepal bowlers as all went wicketless and went the distance as well. So, West Indies win this match but Nepal wins the series 2-1. Ramon Simmonds was awarded the Player of the Match award while Kushal Bhurtel got the Player of the Series Award. Sundeep Jora got the Everest Maximum Sixes of the Tournament Award. Nepal with a historic series win in the end.
That wraps up the series in Sharjah with Nepal winning the series 2-1. Nepal will head off the Qualifiers next for the T20 World Cup 2026 while West Indies head to India for a 2-Test match series starting soon on 2nd October 2025 in Ahmedabad.
