Rilee Rossouw‘s brilliant unbeaten 78 off just 38 deliveries helped the LAKR to beat the Seattle Orcas by 2 wickets in a thrilling Encounter. Rilee Rossouw looked in a beast mode as all the variations were proving to be ineffective.
Earlier batting first the Orcas posted a formidable total of 170 with the help of a brilliant unbeaten 60 off 45 deliveries by Shehan Jayasuriya and a vital contribution by opener Nauman Anwar 32(20) and Heinrich Klassen 25(13)
Chasing a steep target of 170 the top order of LAKR failed again but with the help of Rilee Rossouw’s brilliance with the bat and a vital contribution from Andre Russell 37(29) the Kolkata Knight Riders beat the Seattle Orcas by 2 wickets in a thriller.
DECENT START BY THE ORCAS
The Orcas began their innings steadily, with Nauman Anwar leading the charge. His elegant stroke play and perfect timing allowed him to accumulate 32 runs, including five well-timed boundaries.
However, just as the powerplay was concluding, Quinton de Kock tried to accelerate the scoring but got dismissed by Adam Zampa. Despite the loss of a couple of wickets, the Orcas managed a respectable total of 51 runs by the end of the powerplay.
SHEHAN JAYASURIYA’S GREAT BATTING DISPLAY
As the innings progressed, Shehan Jayasuriya and Heinrich Klassen took the responsibility of building a substantial total for the Orcas. Klassen played a quickfire innings, scoring 25 runs off 13 deliveries, maintaining the momentum set by Anwar.
However, the real star of the show was Shehan Jayasuriya. With calculated risks and an array of impressive shots, Jayasuriya showcased his batting prowess. He remained unbeaten till the end, amassing a brilliant 60 runs off just 45 balls, which included seven boundaries and a maximum. His partnership with the lower-order batsmen helped propel the Orcas to a formidable total of 170 runs.
TERRIBLE START TO THE CHASE BY LAKR
Chasing a challenging target of 171, LAKR’s top-order struggles resurfaced. Batsmen like Jason Roy, Jaskaran Malhotra, Gajanand Singh, and Saif Badar faltered, leaving the team reeling at 26/4 by the end of the powerplay. The LAKR’s chase seemed to be in tatters.
RILEE ROSSOUW – ANDRE RUSSELL REBUILD THE INNINGS
The experienced duo of Andre Russell and Rilee Rossouw took charge. Russell and Rossouw calmly began rebuilding the innings. They rotated the strike efficiently and waited for the right opportunities to unleash their attacking shots.
Andre Russell’s aggression took the game to the Orcas’ bowlers, smashing 37 runs off just 24 deliveries, featuring four boundaries and two sixes. The partnership between Rilee Rossouw and Andre Russell yielded 67 runs off 43 balls, breathing new life into TKR’s chase.
RILEE ROSSOUW’S EXTRAORDINARY FINISH TO THE INNINGS:
After Russell’s dismissal, the responsibility of steering the chase towards victory fell solely on Rilee Rossouw’s shoulders. With 82 runs still needed, the pressure was immense. Yet, Rossouw rose to the occasion, unleashing a breathtaking innings.
Rilee Rossouw showed impeccable timing and power, scoring an unbeaten 78 runs off just 38 deliveries. His extraordinary knock included an array of well-timed boundaries and breathtaking shots. With support from the lower-order batsmen, Rossouw powered TKR to a sensational victory in the last over of the innings.
