With the help of Man of the Match Dewald Brevis‘ 57(41) batting heroics and Trent Boult’s Brilliant 4-Fer with the ball the MI New York defeated the Washington Freedoms by 16 runs in the eliminator to advance to the Challenger Match. Dewald Brevis seemed in complete control of his knock.

Earlier after being put into bat MI NY had a bad start to the innings but Dewald Brevis’ innings and some great finishing by Tim David 23(12) powered the MI NY to a respectable total of 141 on the board considering the nature of the pitch.

While chasing a stiff target of 142 the WAF never looked in any control of the chase courtesy of Trent Boult’s 4-Fer as they eventually fell short by 16 runs and got eliminated from the Title Race.

SLOW START FOR THE MI NY

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the WAF bowlers put on a spectacular show, stifling the MI NY batsmen in the initial overs.

The disciplined bowling coupled with brilliant fielding kept the run-scoring in check and resulted in the crucial runout of Monank Patel. Shayan Jahangir took 12 off the last over of the power play against Anrich Nortje and with help of that the score reached to 24/1 in the powerplay.

DEWALD BREVIS’ BRILLIANCE WITH THE BAT

Despite the slow start, MI NY found their savior in the form of Dewald Brevis. Coming into bat, Dewald Brevis shouldered the responsibility of accelerating the run rate. He started cautiously but soon found his rhythm, taking calculated risks and dispatching the ball to the boundaries regularly.

Dewald Brevis’ brilliant knock of 57 off 41 deliveries consisted of four boundaries and three sixes. He was ably supported by Tim David’s quickfire 23.

Both Dewald Brevis and Tim David had a vital partnership of 75 runs for the fourth wicket which helped MI NY reach a competitive total of 141 runs.

DECENT START TO THE CHASE BY WAF

Chasing a challenging target of 142 runs, WAF got off to a decent start with Andries Gous and Mukhtar Ahmed launching a counter-attack with an array of boundaries. However, the game took a dramatic turn during the middle overs as MI NY’s bowlers took control of the match.

MI NY BOSS THE MIDDLE OVERS

Between the 7th and 16th overs, MI NY bowlers, led by the experienced David Wiese and Nothush Kenjinge, tightened their grip on the game.

The duo tore into the WAF middle-order, taking five crucial wickets and conceding only 53 runs. Wiese played a key role, removing the dangerous Mukhtar Ahmed and Moises Henriques in a single over, leaving WAF reeling.

With the game still hanging in the balance, MI NY’s stand-in skipper Nicholas Pooran entrusted Trent Boult with the responsibility of wrapping up the tail-enders.

The New Zealand pacer delivered under pressure, claiming three vital wickets, including the prized scalps of Glenn Philips and Marco Jansen. Jansen, who was looking ominous, fell to a stunning catch by David Wiese at the boundary line.

WAF’s hopes dwindled as the overs ticked by, and they eventually fell short by 16 runs, posting 125/9 in their allotted 20 overs. MI NY’s disciplined bowling and exceptional fielding efforts secured them a hard-fought victory in this thrilling contest.

WHAT NEXT FOR MI NY:

MI NY after a comprehensive win will look to continue their winning momentum as they face the Texas Super Kings in the Challenger on Saturday as only one of them will advance in the finals to face the Seattle Orcas.
