Delhi Capitals’ (DC) fans would be pumped up with the return of Rishabh Pant who missed last year’s edition as he had a horrific accident in December 2022. Rishabh Pant is someone who brings the best out of his team mates as he can be seen having sledging and banter with the batters behind the wicket.
DC’s management would be considering promoting Axar Patel up the order especially against the spinners. If they do that, then the pinch hitter Rovman Powell can go berserk during the death overs. The problem with DC is that they don’t capitalize on a winning run due to which all of their hard work goes into vain.
We missed Rishabh Pant incredibly last year- Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting was having an interaction with India Today. Ricky Ponting pointed out that the whole tournament missed Rishabh Pant and said he brings a lot of energy to the team. Ricky Ponting stated that it is his job to bring success to DC team and was quite focused on winning the maiden IPL 2024 edition for the franchise.
“We missed him incredibly last year. The whole tournament missed him. Rishabh brings so much energy to the team. He’s got that smile on his face, he’s hitting the ball as good as ever and he tends to lift all of his teammates around,” said Ricky Ponting.
“It’s not a different approach, it’s the same, but I’m going to be more intense with the way that I go about it this year. Every time I come here I talk about wanting to win the IPL and nothing changes there. I’m just going to talk about that a lot more this year. I want the guys to be fully engaged and that’s the reason we’re all here. It’s my job to bring success to this team. We’re not talking about just winning enough games to qualify. We’re talking about winning the IPL,” he added.
Topsy Turvy IPL 2023 for DC
IPL 2023 was a forgettable season for DC who finished at 9th position with 5 wins from 14 matches. It won’t be wrong to say that DC lacked the fighting spirit as the side under the leadership of skipper David Warner looked in all sorts of trouble which wasn’t a good sign for the team by any means.
According to sources with knowledge, it is strongly believed that David Warner will continue to lead the side. David Warner got into the shell by playing defensive cricket as he was in two minds whether to attack or defend which hurt the team. Delhi Capitals needs to play according to their credentials and potential and Warner needs to unleash attack on the opposition team.
