Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday night by 78 runs to claim their 3rd spot in the IPL 2024 points table. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad smashed a whooping 98 runs. In the meantime, Shivam Dube and Daryl Mitchell contributed, aiding CSK to give a target of 213-run in total. However, magnificent bowling by Tushar Deshpande in the powerplays created a huge difference in their win.

Deshpande gave his all in bowling. And in return, he registered 4 wickets in his name off three overs. The first three wickets were taken in the powerplay, which destroyed the batting line-up of SRH, led by Travis Head. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad appreciated that the pacer had brought back the drive that was missing in this IPL season.

“One area where we lost momentum is a few games was not getting wickets in the powerplay. It is the only way we can put the opposition on the back foot. Deshpande bowled really well. His hard work is paying off,” said Gaikwad.

While the spinners were having a tough time, the focus was on Ravindra Jadeja to maintain his line and length of impact. The spinner gave away 24 runs in just overs but also took a wicket.

“Special mention to Jaddu as well. In these wet conditions, four overs 20-25 runs, for me that was a match-turning spell. I’m not very vocal. Everyone is very experienced in the dressing room and you can’t just go up to seniors and tell them what to do. So I just take a back seat.” mentioned Gaikwad

Gaikwad also went on to say that he was not a bit worried about his century, instead, he was simply ‘upset’ with himself.

“I was never even thinking about the hundred. I was just trying to make sure we get to 220 or whatever extra runs possible. Even in the last game, I wasn’t thinking about the hundred. I was super upset I missed a few shots. At the innings break I thought it would cost us. But in the end, it worked out. Last game we made some errors, some loose balls here and there, and not really up to the mark in the field. Today we came up with plans, stuck to them and we were excellent in the field.
