Former Indian batter and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir feels that those who are praising Hardik Pandya for his captaincy need to think once because he didn’t perform well enough and mostly he faced backlashes too. Hardik Pandya hasn’t been able to dictate the terms like he did when he was the skipper of Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2022 & 2023 edition.

It’s not important to focus on what the experts are saying- Hardik Pandya

Former Indian batter Gautam Gambhir has expressed his opinion that those who are praising Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya had a bad season after appointing him as a captain for Mumbai Indians. Since he became the captain of Mumbai Indians he faced many backlashes and was booed in the stadium. Hardik was crowned champions for Gujarat Titans everyone praised him for his captaincy but when he traded to Mumbai Indians his captaincy didn’t work that much.

“It’s not important to focus on what the experts are saying. It is their job to comment on things. I believe that someone’s captaincy is judged only based on his team’s performance. Had MI done well, these same experts would have been praising Hardik Pandya,”

Hardik Pandya can score very few runs and scalped 12 wickets till now. In their last match, they will play at Wankhede against Lucknow Super Giants and will try to end their campaign on a winning note.

“If there is the same setup next year and MI start doing well, all the experts will start saying opposite things, and that would be the headline. Ultimately, it’s about the performance. There is a talk about captaincy because MI haven’t performed well,” he added.

Experts who have showered their blessings on Hardik Pandya despite a bad season they are appreciating his approach and captaincy. Gautam Gambhir said:

“You have to realize that Hardik Pandya has come from a different franchise. So, it takes time sometimes. He captained Gujarat for two years and was given the leadership position in Mumbai. You cannot expect him to suddenly deliver. Yes, he could have surely delivered, but even if that’s not happened, give that guy a bit more time. Judging him for each and everything is not the right thing,”
