The youngsters of India national cricket team have made a huge statement that they belong to the pinnacle level but Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the likes of Sarfaraz & Dhruv Jurel will have to work hard to take the baton from Virat, Rohit & Pujara. Sanjay Manjrekar also pointed out that overseas success is key for the youngsters to make a case for themselves.

Many cricket experts have raised their voice when Shubman Gill changed his batting position and played at No.3 position but the batter had a wonderful series where he scored 452 runs in 5 Test matches and smashed 2 tons with an average of 56.5. Shubman Gill may not be the next Cheteshwar Pujara but he has the knack of playing the waiting game as well which is priceless in modern cricket.

India will rely on who will take the baton from Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma & Cheteshwar Pujara- Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar was having an interaction with ESPNCricinfo. Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that the likes of Sarfaraz Khan & Dhruv Jurel will have to wait a little longer and see how they fare in Australia, England & other overseas countries. Manjrekar stated that taking the baton from Virat, Rohit & Pujara won’t be easy for the next crop of generation.

“For me, it is still about these batters, having shown the potential to get big runs at the Test level, very keen to play at the Test level, which is a great sign. Sarfaraz as well, Dhruv Jurel, has some great foundation, so that’s an exciting talent out there. But let’s wait a little longer. Let these guys play in Australia, England and other places, and then we’ll see who are the long-term batters that India will rely on who will take the baton from the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara,” said Sanjay Manjrekar.

Impressive performance by India’s batting line up

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the biggest positive for India who amassed 712 runs in 5 Test matches and struck 2 tons and 3 half centuries. It seemed as if Yashasvi Jaiswal was on a mission as the veteran fast bowler James Anderson was taken to the cleaners by the dashing left handed batter.

The rising right handed batter Sarfaraz Khan now has silenced all of his critics and looks a long term middle order batter. Sarfaraz was quite fearless against England’s quality spinners. We should not forget that Devdutt Padikkal also had a terrific debut and had a wide range of shots in his knock of 65 runs in the 5th Test match.
