Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has expressed confidence in young Indian cricketers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer ahead of the upcoming five-match Test series against England. Gavaskar, known for his insightful analysis, believes that Yashasvi Jaiswal will easily adapt to home conditions and establish himself in the Indian Test team.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who made a memorable debut against the West Indies with a score of 171, struggled in the recent Test series against South Africa. However, Gavaskar believes that the left-hander will find success in familiar conditions, having previously opened for India in West Indies and South Africa.

I think Yashasvi Jaiswal will establish himself completely in Indian Test team- Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar stated in an interview with Star Sports’ Gameplan on Saturday,

“Yashasvi Jaiswal will easily settle in home conditions. He’s also a left-hander. I think he’ll establish himself completely in the Indian Test team after this series,”

Shreyas Iyer’s Test Aspirations: Replicating ODI World Cup Success in Red Ball Cricket

The former India captain also expressed optimism about Shreyas Iyer’s performance in the Test series, drawing parallels to his success in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Iyer, known for his aggressive batting style, impressed in the World Cup with 530 runs in 11 innings, including two centuries and three half-centuries.

“In the World Cup, Shreyas Iyer batted brilliantly in Indian pitches, so I’m hoping he’ll play similarly at No.5 in the Test series. He batted aggressively, was quite watchful at the start, and then his stroke-making after reading the pitch was a delight to watch. I hope he’ll replicate that,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy Test in Hyderabad: Bowling Strategy on Batting-Friendly Pitch

The cricket legend also turned his attention to the upcoming Test series against England and highlighted the challenges for India’s captain, Rohit Sharma. Gavaskar emphasized the need for strategic bowling decisions on a traditionally batting-friendly surface in Hyderabad.

“As captain, he (Rohit Sharma) needs to use his bowlers cleverly. Usually in Hyderabad, there is not enough turn on offer, so if England bats first and make a successful start till lunch, there we’ve to see how he uses his bowlers to judge him,” said Sunil Gavaskar.

Reflecting on Rohit Sharma’s batting prowess, Gavaskar recalled the opener’s outstanding century against England in the previous home series. He urged Rohit to replicate that form, providing a strong start for Team India and easing the pressure on the middle order.

“Rohit Sharma scored a tremendous century against England in the Chennai Test during the previous home series. He showed how to bat in a spin-friendly pitch. If he bats similarly, then Team India will get a good start. It also eases the work for No. 3 and 4 batters,” he added.

As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the India-England Test series, Gavaskar’s insights add depth to the anticipation surrounding the performance of emerging talents and experienced players alike.
