Former Indian Opener Gautam Gambhir has emphasized the importance of managing expectations around Yashasvi Jaiswal and allowing him to play without excessive pressure. Gambhir noted that building hype and making players heroes prematurely could adversely affect their confidence. Yashasvi Jaiswal has shown immense control in his double ton knock against England.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made a significant impact on Day 2 of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam, achieving his maiden Test double-century. The 22-year-old displayed a combination of skill and calculated aggression, setting records in the process. Jaiswal’s double-hundred contributed to India’s total of 396 in the first innings, marking a remarkable achievement for the young left-hander.

I want to congratulate Yashasvi Jaiswal- Gautam Gambhir

In an interview with PTI, Gautam Gambhir congratulated Yashasvi Jaiswal for his remarkable achievement but also cautioned against overhyping the youngster.

“I want to congratulate the youngster for his achievement but, more importantly, I want to tell everyone that let the young man play. We have seen in the past that in India we have a habit, especially the media, to over-hype their achievements and give them tags and make them look like heroes,”

“The pressure of expectation gets the better of them, and the players are not able to play their natural game,”

Gautam Gambhir, while discussing Shubman Gill’s ongoing struggles, advocated for patience and emphasized the need to allow players the time to navigate through challenging phases in their careers.

“Let him grow and enjoy his cricket. We should give them time as they are quality players, and they have shown it in the past with their performance. That is why they are playing for India,”

While Yashasvi Jaiswal made a remarkable double-hundred in the ongoing Test, Shubman Gill faced challenges, managing only modest scores in his third consecutive innings. The right-handed batter, who had two low scores in the previous Test, fell to James Anderson on 34, contributing to his recent struggles.
