The exciting 5-match Test Series between India and England is underway. With all the hype of Bazball coming to India a lot of speculations were made before the series opener. England elected to bat first and showed their intent from the word go against the Indian Pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. However, the introduction of the Indian spinners put a lid on the scoring rate and also dented England’s innings with quick wickets.

A fighting knock of 70 from their Skipper Ben Stokes and some handy runs from the lower order took England to 246. The Indian innings began with a bang, Yashasvi Jaiswal brought out his A-game putting the England bowlers right under the pump. Indian captain Rohit Sharma looked good but fell to Jack Leach playing a big shot. India ended Day 1 with 119 on board.

Day 2 began rather disappointedly for India, with overnight batter Yashasvi Jaiswal departing in the first of the day hitting one straight back to the bowler Joe Root.

Shubman Gill’s struggles at No.3 in Test Cricket Continue

Young Batter Shubman Gill came into bat at No.3 for India late on Day 1. When runs were coming thick and fast from the other end, Shubman Gill chose to hold his nerve and stay at one end. Gill ended Day 1 with 14 runs off 43 deliveries.

Starting the proceedings on Day 2, Shubman Gill didn’t start his day as well as he may have wanted to. Gill struggled to rotate the strike and was struck at one end. He toiled hard to get runs and just went on defending deliveries one after the other.

And out of the blue Gill stepped out and tried to play a big hit from all the pressure he built on himself from not being able to rotate the strike. And luckily for Gill England Skipper Ben Stokes lost sight of the ball in Sun and failed to take the catch.

Gill got some confidence after hitting a juicy full toss from Rehan Ahmed for a boundary and looked to be positive after that. In the process, Gill got out playing a big shot against the turn of a delivery from Debutant left-arm spinner Tom Hartley. He couldn’t reach the pitch of the delivery but still went on with the shot which took the inside half of the bat and found Ben Duckett at mid-wicket.

Gill might have been thinking too much of his lack of performances in test cricket and looked tentative. He couldn’t play his natural game and found himself nowhere to hide.

What’s ahead for Team India?

India are behind by 87 runs at the fall of Gill’s wicket. Shreyas Iyer walked to the crease to partner KL Rahul who is looking like all money at the crease. The duo will be looking to erase the deficit and start building pressure on England. India bats deep, they will look to consolidate their position with more runs as they have bat last on this surface.
